I tried that the website says it cant recognize my serial #. Called Apple and they said my serial # is not in their database yet and asked me to give it a couple weeks.

Same here. I bought my mini yesterday from the Apple Store and it does not recognize my serial.

I just received a mini from the refurb store (ordered Friday), and it had '09 installed but there was an Ilife 11 DVD in the box (with the other disks).

I'd be EXTREMELY pissed off if, by now, one purchased a computer from an Apple store and it did not have '11 pre-installed. If it does not they should give you copy (they should have oem type disks like I had in my mini's box just for that situation). I just bought two macbook pro's last week from my local Apple store and it was very clear that they had '11 pre-installed by the new Ilife 'logo' on the box.

I purchased a mini the week before Thanksgiving from Macconnection (saved $100) and it did not have '11. It had the old '09 logo on the box. I understood this as it could have been in the retail channel (warehouse) for a while so it didn't really bother me. I would not expect a third party retailer to have up to date stuff or make good on old stock not having current s/w image.

Apple should not charge $7 (plus tax) for something that's advertised to come with any new mac after it's release date. It should be a free download at the very least, especially if you walked into one of their stores and purchased it 2 months after the software has been released.

Just my 2 cents.

It shouldn't be this difficult ...

I purchased my MacMini on November 26 from Amazon and it came with iLife '09 too. Like others here, the Apple website does't recognize my serial number, so I called the number listed and was told that Amazon isn't an authorized reseller. I then checked Apple's site and it said that Amazon IS an authorized reseller, so I called back. The person I talked with that time didn't know who Amazon was, but was at least willing to look it up. They were also unfamiliar with the iLife upgrade, so after 45 minutes they transferred me to someone else and I got disconnected. I've been dreading calling back to start the process all over again. It shouldn't be this hard.

Interesting...

I never got an upgrade for that mini because it's the family room 'media server' and do not use ilife apps on it.

For grins I went to the ilife uptodate site and tried to order the upgrade and I too unknown serial number message (it didn't bark at Macconection as my dealer though).

So, for more grins I decided to register the mini with Apple, along with my other computers and then see if it likes it.

Seems Apple's registration web site is a bit, well, messed up. Guess I'll have to wait on this one!

Film at 11, or 12, or next week.........

FWIW...When I spoke to the Apple rep he was very surprised that my new Mini did not include iLife '11 and he apologized about 10 times and said I will receive the DVD in a few days.

No Ilife here either

Bought a new Mac Mini at the beginning of December. No ILife11, so I rang them, they didn't seem surprised, just told me that it would be posted out within a day or two. Got it a few days later.

Methinks they have not sold as many Mac Mini's as they'd wished to.

Well i called Apple again today. The guy says that since i didnt buy it from Apple, i have to contact the seller myself.

What a bunch of crock. I think Apple needs to issue a master list of who their authorised sellers are. Will avoid such problems in future.

This "Buy from my store or else..." attitude is so frigging frustrating and ridiculous.(The Apple store didnt do anything about my iMac yellow screen issue either since i didnt buy it from them)

Mac mini might just be the last Apple product i will have. That being said, my iPad goes on sale ASAP. Enough of this gestapo company and its rules, i have had enough.

Not a happy new mac user

Saw the new ilife 11 at the SF Apple store and loved the new Garage Band and was told all new macs come with it installed.

Wife got me a new one from best buy and of course it had Ilife 9, talked to apple and they want to charge me for the upgrade and give me some garbage about if I bought it at apple it would have been on there.

Since apple obviously knows their own product. I return the mac mini to the Best Buy and have a bit of a hassle but get it done. Then go out of my way to go to an official apple store where I am made to wait for a representative who verifies that the Mac mini has Ilife 11 installed on it. But their receipt says if the box in open and returned I pay $69.00 which I didn't really have a problem with till I got home and plugged the stupid thing in and it is loaded with I life 9! I call the store and they tell me I now have to go back to their stinking store and get it figured out, losers! And I must be the sucker ):( I could have got the upgrade by now in the mail. Already not a fan.

All for a stupid Garage BAnD?

I just got my new/customer return 15" MBP deal from Bestbuy on 12/11/10 and it did not have iLife installed after seeing the thread about the upgrade. I then remembered that since it was a customer return they probably never re-installed the application software but just performed a basic restore. After locating and installing the iLife DVD which happened to be the 09 version. I just sent off for the iLife 11 upgrade for $6.99 last week and my copy was shipped on 1/4/11. I didn't think to pressure Apple to give it to me for free but Oh well I guess I'm out $6.99 + Tax. They were pretty helpful in getting my MBP re-registered for myself the current owner & retro-active back to date purchased after showing them my receipt. I'm really enjoying the forum and the wealth of information here;)

I called Apple and they are sending me the iLife '11 dvd for no cost. :)

That's what I did. I already paid a nice penny for the mini. No one should have to shell out a penny extra for something it should have come with in the first place. Certainly not $6.99.
