Just looking at Apple's previous trends, they seem to be simplifying the lineup. If you take a look Apple's hardware lineup, with the recent iBook and iMac updates they have simplified the lineup by bringing down both models from having 3 to only 2 different configurations. I see the same thing happening with iLife and iWork. Sales of iWork have been VERY poor. Sure some people like them, but regardless it is doing VERY poorly. Also having to buy both iLife and iWork in the New Year sucks, as I wont be buying two seperate boxes at that price to stay up to date. However if Apple merges them both into one package, they will probably make more money as it will be seen as an extraordinary value as more people will buy it, and I for one will buy it. They can bump up the price right now for iLife possibly to $99 from $79 or more if it includes the iWork apps and I will gladly pay for it if I get those apps in one package at that price. However if things stay the same with iWork and ILife being the seperate packages they are now, I will be staying with my '05s. Apple understands that I'm sure and I am 100% convinced that come the New Year, there will only be one iLife package that incorporates iWork into it.

I'd hate to see them bundled together for various reasons.

Now if they want to include iWork with new machines, that is a different story. And let people pay for upgrades if they want them.

Basically the more applications they bundle in one package, the more complicated it'll be to put it out.

I don't know if we will see everything together because Keynote was always paid software and when Pages came out it became a set...it would be nice to see the set coming with all new Mac's.

They both have separate markets, they have separate purposes, and they deserve separate boxes. I fully expect iLife '06 to get bumped to $99 if they add in Front Row and their new remote. iWork '06 should also see a new addition with Numbers (a spreadsheet/graphing app). With both packages seeing new features, and both currently priced at $79, there is no way Apple would combine the two. The price would either be too high to sell any or so low that Apple would have been better off charging for both separately. I just don't see the logic from their point of view.

They will not add the remote to the iLife box. It would be redundant for people who alreay have one. Also, unless you have a new iMac (of the current systems), the remote won't work for you.

Why make people pay for something they have or something they can't use. They do sell the remote seperately for people who need a replacement or want to use it with the new iPod dock.

I think each little app should be sold seperately for $25, as well as bundled together in either iLife or iWork; each bundled package being $75.

Although I use all of the iLife apps from time to time (except for GarageBand), I don't have much use for Pages, and would rather be able to get Keynote by itself.

Or at least give the option online to select your packages individually for download.

Now there's an idea! I'd certainly buy Keynote and possibly iPhoto (if PhotoPro fails to materialize) separately for download. it's easy money for Apple: no box, no CD, no shipping, no warehousing. I really hope this happens.
