iLife missing

The iWork application seems to be a good app for the iPad. It is about productivity.

ILife so far was about creativity (more Mac like). Their apps are totally absent of the iPad. I know, we at least got Photos, which is a basic viewer, but far away from any creative work. Weren't Apple products for creative people once?

Looking closer at iPhoto: Ok, no chance all feature should be implemented, but some could be uses quite well with the techniques already on board. Face tagging (not detection), Place tagging, cropping, basic adjustments, album reorganization and so on. As a photographer I'd naturally like to have more, but this already would shift the iPad from "might buy" to "must have".

iWeb: iWeb is a fantastic app for serious blogging (not crappy facebooking), it's GUI could be the same as pages, actually it looks as if it was designed for that. So, although it is heavy on the CPU, the pages app proves the principle.

iDVD and so on: No idea, but some guys might come up with the wish to also have that included and it might be reasonable. Can't judge that myself.

So, where the hell is/are the iLife app/s? Aren't there more out there that feel these apps to be annoyingly missing?

iDVD is useless on the Pad.

Garageband is in the works I'm sure.

iMovie is useless also.

There are a lot of photo apps already in the app store that should work fine on the Pad.

Well, I do not need ANY photo app, all I want is seamless integration and this is usually the standard app itself. In this specific case, it should be iPhoto. I gladly accept Aperture as well, but this would kill the A4.

Most of the features are there, they just have to be combined. The GUI of pages, maps, faces, photo-app, they just have to be merged into a proper iPhoto and iWeb.

iMovie is useless also.

Unless they had released it with a camera Nothing too fancy but more featured than the iphone with some basic editing, few nice cutscene transitions and an upload to youtube feature would be very welcome on a internet enabled tablet, the hub of your social network which the ipad could have been.

No, it does not in the terms of creativity. It is so far the same as on an iphone. You may sync a folder containing a face selection, not tagging faces in photos with names of your address book.

And this is a pain in the ****, same goes with locations. I'd rather do that on the couch with my Pad than sitting for hours in front of my iMac.

An iMove like app wouldn't be totally useless. Using the sd card reader or camera kit, or even file transfer, get your video on there and away you go.

people can't seem to get their heads around the concept that the ipad is an entertainment device, not a productivity device. you should get a mac book to do all those things *beautifully* and 99% of the things the ipad does, as well.

the ipad is intended and designed specifically for you to empty your wallet at the itunes store, not for you to edit pictures, movie clips and draw up spreadsheets.

steve jobs demonstrating the numbers app was to show that the machine is capable of running that app, and not to show that the ipad is for productivity.

All of the iLife programs are way to bloated and power hungry to operate well on the iPad or iPhone. This is why they are not available. Nuff said.

So whats with iWork then? This is power hungry and bloated and it is about productivity and not consuming apps. Or was that just a mistake by apple? "Oh sorry, you misunderstood me, I wanted you to develop an OSX version!"

And no, the iPad is not only meant for consuming media and apps, at least that Steve got right. He wants to take every market he can get with it and he needs it badly. And as far as I guess their tactics, they will try as long as the iPad does allow it.

I would find an iPad version of iMovie useful. Obviously, it doesn't have a camera but I wouldn't take pictures or videos with it anyway. If it did have a camera it would essentially be useful for video conferencing or motion gesture recognition, not filming your family vacation. A tablet simply isn't a good platform for filming, no matter how full its feature set may be.

On the other hand, multitouch editing might be useful in a mobile setting.

The two features this would require would be sufficient memory for video storage and decent processing power. I can't say definitively if the A4 processor has the power for it one way or the other but 64 gigs of storage, with everything else that would be stored on it, probably isn't enough for moderate use.

Serious movie editing does most probably not go along with the hardware, although storage capacity is going to increase eventually. But light editing, lets say short clips, would work. But I am not fully into iMovie: Does it use its own library? Is the editing requiring a seamless integration into an iLife library (like iWeb, iPhoto, iTunes)?

iWork was written from the ground up for multi-touch and I'm quit sure it is pure Cocoa. And Jobs stated the Pad ran it fine. And from the video I've seen it does just that.
