iLife users on Macbook, is 1 GB of Ram good enough for basic usage of Garageband?

I have 1gb in my pb and it can be sluggish but there is another outside factor my processor is only g4 800. Cousin has 1.5gb in his and it is considerably fater and his is a 1.5 g4

Thanks guys, well 1 GB seems enough then for me. My first Mac laptop/PC then for me,

SpankyPenzaanz, hard for me to decide from that information as you have 2 variable changes. But it seems as a 1.83 Ghz and 1 gig should work then.

Got to get a mac osx book, prolly the missing manual.

I might just post a picture for ya in a second, of my current project. It has 21 instruments (the last time I checked) and it runs very well on a Macbook 1.83 with 1GB RAM. I get the occasional "This song could not be played because it's got too much goin' on" error, but that's on normal battery settings. When I change it to Better Performance it's fine.

But for basic use, it should be fine. If you could clarify basic use I could try something out and along those lines and give you an idea.
Thanks.

EDIT: This song is now 47.2mb, and it takes a while to load/save up. In all honesty, the system is clearly being slowed down by the loading, no beach balls but a few stutters. But I am currently on Better Battery Life.

Maybe at tops 7 instruments. But the software is different from what I thought it was like so I will most likely not use it. As I am not looking for a software with prerecorded streams, but a program where I just write in the tablature and then it would play that for whatever instrument I wrote the tablature for.

Anyways. Cheers! Guess I will have to write by hand and play by hand on the guitar/piano or find a nother software for macosx.

Thanks ubuntu for that amazing work in helping me!

Ah, that's fair enough.

Here are two programs that may be of use. I cannot vouch for either, sadly.

Tablature (Freeware)
Guitar Pro

If neither is of any use, I'd recommend this cable as the Macbook does support Line-in, which may be of help. I also noticed that you can edit most of the loops in Garageband, which is a nice touch. I know that's not really any use to you but still, thought you'd like to know.

Happy huntin'!

Amazing help Ubuntu! =)

Ye, I will get that type of cable for my Macbook, and as well GuitarPro 5 when it comes out- as it's great for Guitar. Do you know where I can find a good one for Piano by any chance or know of a good Music-Mac orientated forum?

Oh trust me, I know how those places are. Same goes for Head-fi.org =]

But thanks for the warning though =}

Thanks for your help. Cool helpfull place =} Guess this is the Neowin win for MacOS?

Found one thanks to those sites (search function)

There are just too many,

I will later maybe put just a list of each program with a short summary, links to the publisher, wiki article, review article and a small picture of it. But anyways, that is for later.

For those of you who don't know about it guitar pro 5 came out for the mac already. Also that cable is way over priced you can get one for less than 10 at radio shack if not you can get a monster cable which is way better than that piece of crap at griffins.

Of course, but that was a recommendation from using 8 different brands of XLR to mini-jack/Jack to mini-jack cables. I found the Griffin one to be pretty good.
