Hello,
I've just received a MacBook Pro 13 2010 (Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz) refurbished by an Apple Center with El Capitan just installed.
The computer doesn't have iLife installed, is it ok or should it have it?
Thank you for paying attention

iLife as a product no longer exists. The two programs left from that suite are iMovie and Garage Band. If you want to edit movies or mix music, then yes should get them from the app store. If you don't care to do either of those activities, then don't bother.

Sorry, maybe my message wasn't clear, I was wondering if it is normal not to have iMovie and Garage Band installed even if the computer has been refurbished by Apple.

If it was a refurb you bought from the Apple refurb web site, it would come with the iLife and iWork apps already installed. But if it was refurb'd by somebody else who just erased the disk then reinstalled the OS then none of those apps would be on there.

Should I be able to restore them using the Application DVD which is in the original box?
[doublepost=1459674181][/doublepost]PS: the computer had a fresh install of El Capitan from a man who went to the App store, asked for hisMAC to be reurbished with El Capitan installed and then gave it to a seller (who is a friend of mine and I'm 100% sure it's the truth).

If you have the DVD, then what is the problem? iLife should be pre-installed on a new Mac if you bought it from Apple, but you seem to have bought it second-hand from an unaffiliated seller. Apple does not refurbish Macs on request, so they probably only restored the operating system and did nothing else.

Yes, you can install from the DVD, but they may be older versions.

That explains the confusion. A "refurb" in Apple terminology normally refers to a computer that has been refurbished by Apple itself and had the OS and all apps reinstalled before sale. Sounds like your seller just had the store reinstall the OS, which would not include those apps.

But would there be a charge to download (re-download?) the missing apps? There is still a $14.99 price listed in the app store, although I don't quite understand why considering that it is included with a new purchase.

When you buy a new Mac the first time you start you go to the App Store and "claim" the free iLife and iWorks apps, then from that point on they will show up as purchased in your App Store history. But if you never "claimed" them or bought the Mac used, they will not show as purchased and you will have to pay for them.
