hi all,

we don't have much info here in illinois but we're hearing rumors of a supposed "lockdown" coming up soon - if this were to take place before friday, would we still be able to go in and pick up our orders for the iphone?

i know this has happened before in other cities and doing a search didn't seem to yield much.

thanks for your time!

I thought of that too, but after I had already placed my pick-up order... My guess is we wouldn't be able to pick it up at the store and Apple would probably ship the phone instead; in that case, we would probably be getting the phone the following week :(

i read somewhere that they would leave the store open for (3?) days after the shutdown for last minute pickups, but i don't know if that was here in the united states or elsewhere.

i think the 3 day situation makes sense, but also governors, etc are strict / not so strict so i feel like it would vary. does anything think we should call and weigh our options?

Honestly I don’t think anyone can really answer that question. The lockdowns and restrictions are so much location dependent. Different states and even different counties and cities within states are doing different things.

Way back in the spring during the first lockdown, in this area, at least, all non essential stores, including apple stores were completely shut down for a while, but then they started to ease the restrictions a bit and things like curbside pickup and limited capacity became available. I remember waiting in line outside a huge sporting goods store at one point because they were only allowing 25 people into the store at once.

When the shutdown first happened I think it caught people off guard because we had never experienced anything like this before and no one really had any other alternatives. But now these other options like curbside pickup and limited capacity are much more commonplace. I can certainly see localities implementing those restrictions again in the coming weeks and months, but I feel like they would be hard pressed to completely shut things down again due to the impact on the economy and the hardship it creates for people when they suddenly have no job. Now that there are more options to allow retail to continue to operate in some capacity I feel like that’s probably what a new lockdown would look like.

Typically if the store is to temporarily close, they usually will contact those who have in-store pick up and typically the store will open for 3 days for pick up only. This is to give time for those who have Genius Bar repair to pick it up because after that you are out of luck and will need to wait till after the store reopens. Happen here at Apple Hilldale in Madison, WI. They had to close couple of times and I had something to pick up but happen so that it was decided to close so they informed me that I have 3 days to pick it up.

Also keep checking your local Apple Store hours, it's pretty much update but can change anytime and with short notice.
