Illustrator help

Hi there.

Does anybody know how to make this effect on the bike picture frame in illustrator cs5? http://dl.dropbox.com/u/14841570/pages.tiff

I created a brochure in Pages with this effect. I converted it to the pdf file and then exported to Illustrator. It does not translate well. (It has to be an illustrator file for printing)

As you may know my illustrator knowledge is almost zero. So please help me with a step by step guide. Alternatively I have Acorn too, so if it's easier that way, I would love to hear it. I love simple solutions!

Most Print Shops want a Hi Rez PDF file to print from now a days

Illustrator

In the illustrator menu there is a heading called EFFECTS.

Scroll down and you will find "BLUR".

Gaussin Blur is the best.

The effect is also done with a command called FEATHER.
