Hi, I'm trying to rebuild a logo we use at work because it was put together in PowerPoint or something and it never resizes very well, gets dragged out of proportion etc.

I've got Illustrator but I've not used it before and I'm struggling to do something I'm sure is pretty basic so I'm hoping someone can help!

The main bit of the Logo is a ring which is divided into three equal sections, each a different colour. I decided to draw two circles, one inside the other to make the ring and I've managed that OK, but I can't work out how to then divide the ring up.

Could someone help out?

Thanks very much.

could you post a .jpg of the ring or logo? It's kinda hard to get an idea of what you want to do without some visual reference...

rest assured, it's easy

You can try to copy the artwork in Powerpoint and paste it into Illustrator; I've had a few Word documents with clipart in them and I tried this and it pasted the artwork into Illustrator and it was already vector artwork so I didn't have to do anything else except save the file.

If you do this and it's a raster image, you can use Live Trace in CS2 (if you have CS2) to have Illustrator redraw the logo as a vector image.

If neither of those are possible and you still have problems - then yes by all means post a link or something to the artwork and we'll/someone will be able to help you.

It could be done by using the pathfinder tool and subtracting shapes.

simie,

I may have said this before, but I visited your website, and your work is EXCELLENT. I'm very impressed. I wish I could afford some of it...

Cheers...

Thanks...

... to everyone for their help and suggestions. I only have a paper copy here at home, so I can't try any of them out but I will tomorrow. I have CS2 so I think I'll try and copy it in and trace it.

If that doesn't work then I'll upload a .jpg

Thanks again for your help.

You can also scan the hardcopy and then import it into Illustrator and use Live Trace. You'll probably have to play around with the settings in Live Trace; some of the template settings/groups work well and others don't. I'm sure once you play around with the different ones, you'll find one that's close enough. After you apply the Live Trace, click Expand to give you the Outlines and then you're done.

Live Trace is the greatest thing since sliced bread, I swear. The few times that I've been able to use it - it's saved me probably a total of 10 hours of Pen work. :D
