I'm afraid of changing RAM

Just lie it on a towel or cloth of some sort. We did this at school and it didn't cause any damage.
 
It is very, very easy. Take your time, and you won't have a problem. Be sure you're grounded, and be sure you put the RAM in the right way, but nothing is difficult about the process.

I wall-mounted my 24", and when I went to upgrade the RAM, I just had to spin it 180º. Even easier. :D

First of all, that's not a problem. Swapping RAM is a very simple task, yet many find it somewhat intimidating for the first time.

You're first concern is static shock (a computer's worst nightmare). I like to do this procedure in the kitchen because there's no carpet, and they're plenty of metal objects on which to ground myself.

Secondly, you may need to apply more force than you expect (of course, I have no idea what you're expecting). I've seen quite a few cases of first-time RAM installers having problems, and generally they're not pushing hard enough because they are afraid of breaking something. My advise: push gently at first, and gradually push harder until it pops into place. Naturally, if something doesn't feel right stop, remove it, and try again. Don't ever force anything.

yeah I must say that installing ram I'd easy and fun :rolleyes: I put mine on a blanket the imac is really easy to install ram into make sure you dont strip the screw because then u are screwed! So use proper screwdrivers. Sorry for the bad grammar I am on my iPhone.
 
YouTube has several videos that deal with installing RAM in an iMac. Check there first. Also, the kitchen idea is a good one. Any place where there is no carpet. Ground yourself by touching metal, then try not to shuffle your feet. If you've never done it, it can seem intimidating, but once done it's child's play. Check for the videos and you'll see. Congrats on saving some money! Hope you got the RAM from a reputable source.

ON EDIT: OWC is reputable. The screwdriver is a Phillips head size #1 (the smaller one).
 
Just wanted to report- success! Immediate and dramatic improvement. Thanks again guys!

The hardest part was indeed finding a proper screwdriver for the job :D
 
when installing ram, I've seen guys try to force ram in the wrong way. If its' difficult to insert, back away from the computer. Start over. :eek:
