Hi all, I figured I’d post on here as well as Reddit to gather some opinions.

My MBP is a late 2019, 16” 6-core i7 2.6ghz model with 16gb of ram.

The fan noise on this is way louder than it should be, as far as I’m concerned. With or without an external display, the thing seems to kick into high gear. It will do this even if it’s off of the case it’ll frequently sit on the desk.

I’ve attached the YouTube video above. Suggestions? Recommendations? I’m kind of at my wits end.

edit: I have provided a screenshot of the fan noise and the temperatures. The computer is not connected to an external display, and the only two apps running is the one to record this data and the photos app.

Yeah that's definitely not normal. I'm sure you've already tried this, but the first thing I do in those situations is reset the SMC.

Reset the SMC? What does that do?

Also, I should clarify, I have updated the OP with a screenshot providing some data.

What's the air temp of your room? Are the vents of your MBP 16" Core i7 blocked or clogged?

I'm not sure what other scale to value the air temperature in my room, so probably somewhere between 68-74 degrees. The ports are not clogged/blocked.

That sounds like my 2017 MBP with 2 external monitors attached, on a Google Meet.

The System Management Controller (SMC) controls most power functions on modern Macs. Resetting the SMC can resolve some computer issues such as not starting up, not displaying video, sleep issues, fan noise issues, battery charging and more. If a Mac exhibits these types of issues after a restart, or if it will not start up, try resetting the SMC. The SMC replaces the functionality of the PMU used on earlier Macs.

It should fix your fan issues.

How to reset the SMC on Mac notebooks:
  1. Choose Apple menu > Shut Down and wait for your Mac to shut down.
  2. Press Shift-Control-Option on the left side of the built-in keyboard, then press the power button at the same time. ...
  3. Release all keys.
  4. Press the power button again to turn on your Mac.

It'd be more useful to look in Activity Monitor, viewing All Processes and sorting by CPU usage. I use a 2019 16" as my work computer and it can be quite loud at times, but not all the time. Chances are good that you have some background process that's causing things to warm up.

Hi all,

I decided to purchase an M-series MacBook. Connecting it to the monitor (as well as opening a lot of applications) and the thing is dead-silent. The battery life is also incredible. Cheers!
