I have an old late fall 2009 27" iMac collecting dust.

Anything to do with it? Mods and stuff?

Yes, sell it to me for a cool $300.00 shipped...

Or you can take up some hobby, photos, movies, creating websites, etc.

You can try putting a mobility 5850 in it in place of its current mxm gpu. See if it works.

Looks like a followup to this thread:

MacRumors Forums > Apple Hardware > Desktops > iMac > Customizing iMac

Part of moving to OS X is forgoing the ways of the past. Neither of the things you want are at all possible, so you just need to give it a few days to get used to the new setup.

I'm sure you meant "right of every window", but it's still not possible. Again, give it a few days.
Yeah that's what I meant, darn. Gonna have to store this thing in the closet and let it collect some dust.

Dust it

You could wipe off the dust. That would make it look spiffy and new and less boring.

Or you can sell it, buy a new one, and be bored again because it's a computer, not a circus clown.

P.S. "Old" late fall 2009? A one-year-old computer is "old." Ha.

This is joke, right?

hmm ok was a bit to low rrmalvado's offer , but i would give you £300 for it
if its such a boring computer then it sure isn't worth more and its already a year old and dusty :p

if not paint it black ?add a faster harddrive ?, more ram ?, shoehorn a esata port inside ? sell it on ebay and buy a new one ?
ah i forgot install windows 95 and sort out the registry ..keeps you busy for the next 5 years ?

why did you buy it in first place as the iMac 27" isn't something most people buy as a impulse buy , i mean if its collecting dust after just one year means you are either not using it at all ,or neglecting it , so why would you want to spend money on upgrades or mods as neither upgrading or modding will come cheap

honestly i'd like to know because it doesn't make any sense to me

I might try swapping it's gfx card to a better one and bootcamping it for gaming.

Thanks!

My Macbook Pro was stolen the other day. I will gladly take your boring iMac off your hands for you rather than cough up the $1200 for an iMac that I'm facing today (granted, I'm excited to get a new Mac, just not happy about the circumstances.)

How did that happen? Luckily I have a fairly cheap netbook for mobile use that I don't think many people would bother to steal. I heard that the NYC Subways were running campaign ads against people using Apple 'Signature' white earphones cause their iPods were commonly being stolen.

Mine was $2,600.

How much would someone give me for it on eBay?

It's practically brand new. Only thing I did was finish the setup and install firefox. Still got the box, and everything.

May I ask why you refer to it as old at only 1 year? Did you buy a different, a newer, computer to use and that is why it is collecting dust?

Might I ask why you purchased a $2,600 Mac and only installed Firefox and then not use it for a year? I can't seem to get my head wrapped around that idea.

Forgive me, op, for threadjacking, but I'll explain since I was asked: our house was broken into Wednesday morning, the mbp was taken right off my desk, along with my wife's jewelry box (not on my desk, but you know what I mean.) Didn't bother with much else - not our Wii, her DSi XL, my Ipad (it was in a case, so maybe he missed it,) nor a huge collection of CDs and DVDs that could have easily been pawned for thousands of dollars (not kidding, I had 220gb (31,000 songs!) of music on that Macbook ... no, not "technically" backed up, but much of it is on a 160gb Ipod and my Iphone.

Since I don't use my MBP outside of the house now that I have the Ipad, I decided I'm going to get an Imac instead. Unfortunately, I thought I could just go buy one and get reimbursed by the insurance but I guess they can get deals on things so now I have to wait. I haven't been without a computer for more than a week for probably a good 15 years, at least. I wouldn't mind it so much if it weren't for the impending iOS update.

Carbonite's the first thing I'm investing in after I get the new Mac, that's for sure.

I'm sure your iMac is bored with you. Seriously? You bought a $2600 computer and you're "bored"? It doesn't entertain you by itself.

If you mean you don't USE it, you didn't need to BUY it.
If you mean it doesn't do what you want it to do, its capabilities are not significantly different from this year's iMac offerings, so you bought the WRONG machine.

Get a hobby. And do your homework before purchasing.
