hello to all i am new here and i know you all have alotta knowledge which i will use. my question is I'm building a mac pro early 2009 single quad core. i am using Processor Board Quad-Core Without Processors for Mac Pro Early 2009 661-4999 and want to ask which back plane should i get Backplane Board Version 2 for Mac Pro Early 2009 661-5444 or version 1?? the thing is i do not know which processor i should get i want it to be hassle less and compatible with the system i am building which is the best processor bang for the buck and are their to choose from? thanks in advance guys

My guess is most people here will get a refurb or second hand because building a mac pro from spare parts is st00pid (as in more expensive)
Or just google for fora that do discuss building mac's?? Pretty sure the info is out there somewhere.

Yea just an FYI. I recently completely took apart my Mac Pro. It was much more difficult to work on than any PC I've ever built, and there is quite a few little "gotchas" you need to look out for. Just make sure that, when buying parts that they are definitely for the correct model you are trying to build. Most of the parts look the same from gen to gen, but they could be different and incompatible.
Exactly! I already ran into a situation where I needed to replace the PSU, backboard, and frontboard. Cost me over $500...
