*do yall feel the MACBOOK PRO is an overkill. Money is not an issue but i dont like WASTING IT. I really like the look of the pro, to me it is 10 times more beautiful than the white macbook.

WHAT SHOULD I DO?

WHAT SHOULD I DO?

Not type whole sentences in caps, learn proper grammar, and learn to use spell check. :p

Now to be serious. You definitely don't need a Macbook Pro. You won't be doing anything that's graphically intensive. (You say you might start gaming once moving in to dorms, I can assure you this won't happen. I just finished my freshman year and never played a computer game the whole year. I did play some Xbox 360 with a bunch of kids on the floor but never a PC game.)

The Macbook will suit you fine. Get the 2.16GHz model with the Superdrive and 2GB of ram. (It will be cheaper to add 3rd party 2GB of ram, but more complicated)

The staining was only a problem in some of the early models of the Macbook last year, and it has been fixed. Although you should purchase AppleCare to be on the safe side, and if you ever had a problem with it, they would replace the case for you.

Very simply..do you care about the small size of the macbook??

yes>>get a macbook!
no>>get a macbook pro!

Well, if you want to go with the MacBook Pro, go ahead. I agree it's much more stylish than the MacBook, and I like the bigger screen, but let's face it, the MacBook would more than adequately meet your needs. So, it's up to you, though I think you'll be happier with a MacBook Pro in the long run.

The Pro might be overkill. I agree with those above and suggest that you consider the Macbook. I bought the Pro because my line of work requires a lot of power for image manipulation and HD video editing on the fly.

But, if you're going to be doing remote surgery that requires pro-level imagery, then I'd go with the Macbook Pro :p

lol, were all kinda biased, aren't we? Having just bought a mbp I will obviously recommend mbp, haha. in all seriousness though, if it's gonnna be your only computer, get the pro. you'll appreciate the extra screen real estate. if not, get the macbook. The macbook is an excellent choice too but for my only computer I would not be happy due to the screen.

ZOMG ZOMG ZOMG you're, like, PREMED AND BUSINESS?!

get the Macbook cause i guarantee that you'll be studying like there is no tomorrow if you are in fact pre-med. general chemistry 1&2, organic chemistry 1&2, biochemistry 1&2, genetics, molecular cell biology, anatomy and physiology 1&2...yeah i don't really see "gaming" in your future at all. save yourself the few hundred bucks for the booze, red bulls and coffee that will surely become your main source of nutrition.

I think you should go with the Macbook Pro. I personally find that the macbook's glossy screen gives me headaches (although that could be due ot the fact I wear Glasses and that makes everything worse). Glossy screen in general are a problem for me.

Plus the Macbook Pro will likley last longer, since it's specs are much higher than those of the Macbook. Although you will lose one hour on your battery life.

Well... you deinately do not need the MBP

So I say you should get the 2.16 GHz White Macbook with the superdrive (for future proofness since ou said you want to keep it for 4 years)

Also... definatley get 2 GB of RAM if you are going to use parallels.

That should do you just fine for AT LEAST 4 years. :)

I have the 2.2 GHz MBP but that's because I'm a Computer Engineering student and I do some casual gaming like Quake 4 and Counter Strike through Crossover Office. (just to show that I am not being biased)

The glossy screen on the MB is one of the things pushing me to a MBP.

you're premed?

stay away from games to begin with.

What about this??? :D

Anyway, my opinion is that the Macbook would satisfy your computing needs as you described them. And although no one here would recommend it, the Macbook is capable of handling games.

However, you've also said that a) you like the looks of the MBP and b) while money is not a problem, you don't like wasting it.

So I think you ought to go with the Pro, either a low-end Santa Rosa-based pro, or save a little money and go with a refurbished model.
