Okay, okay, a bit clickbaity title, I know.

As some of you may know, I recently bought a 11” iPad Pro. I mean, yes, I bought one this late spring to try it but I ended up returning it because I wasn’t 100% sure. But this past month with the Back to School promo, I definitely purchased the iPad Pro.

And after 3 weeks, using it along with the Smart Keyboard Folio, today I was on the couch with the iPad Pro on my lap and... I yawned. I stretched my arms and legs... and it slipped, I catch the keyboard with my hands but the iPad detached itself from it and... fell to the ground.

Good news: the iPad is perfectly fine, the glass is not broken, everything is fine. I had a matte glass screen protector which broke, but the iPad itself is fine.

But next time I may not have the same luck. Next fall might mean the need of purchasing a 550€ IPad replacement. And I’m not willing to play the odds. So I’m purchasing AppleCare+. I have student discount so it will be 110€ for the AppleCare+ protection plan, that way if my iPad slips and falls, for just 49€ I will be able to ask for a replacement. Or even if it bends, who knows!

PS: After removing the matte glass protector, the screen is MUCH sharper and with more vibrant colors. I will keep it that way, or maybe order a 100% clear tempered glass. No more matte screens for me thanks.

Can’t blame you for wanting AppleCare+, the reassurance against an expensive repair/replacement is worth it for some even if there may a risk of not having a particular incident covered.

Out of curiosity did your AppleCare+ purchase go through? I notice now that they have verbiage on their information page that the warranty purchase needs to be within 60 days of purchase of the device. Just curious if you are within that timeframe or were able to buy outside of it. IIRC in the past one could purchase AppleCare as long as a device was still under original 1-year warranty coverage. I don’t recall if this 60 day language was always around and ignored though.

As I said on my first post, it's been 3 weeks more or less since the purchase. So I am within the 60 days timeframe. Actually I'll wait a bit because the two years start counting after the purchase, so I'll have more time ahead.

Honestly I'm the type of guy that always said "No" to the Apple employees when they start with their AppleCare stuff. Yeah yeah, I know Applecare gives me 2 years of warranty coverage, but see, we are in Europe, so I have 2 years of warranty by law whatsoever.

I never paid for something I thought I had the right to have for free. And I expected the customer service to be equally satisfying wether I paid the AppleCare or not. So I never bought AppleCare, also I can't stand VIP treatment to those that can afford paying more. I think each and every customer should have the same after-sales service.

BUT: AppleCare+ is a different thing. It is some sort of insurance just in case your device breaks. Even if it is accidentally. Even if it isn't covered under their warranty, whatever happens, they can't say no. And a bent iPad or shattered screen because of an accident obviously isn't covered by any warranty. This is an insurance against accidental damage, and today I got a fright watching my iPad falling, and the sound of the iPad hitting the floor is still in my head.

If it were 200€ or even 180€ I definitely wouldn't pay for it. But for roughly 100€ with my student discount, I think it is worth it. If this happens again I won't have to pay 550€ for an iPad replacement.

Applecare plus starts from your original purchase date. It doesn’t matter when you purchase it during that initial 60 day period.

Apple care for laptops before it added accidental damage was like that. Apple care plus has always been 60 days

I always get AppleCare+, and wouldn’t think of letting my iPad go naked without a glass screen protector.

I already ordered a "Moshi" iPad Mini 5 Case and Screen Protector off Amazon as they are not readily available for sale here in Costa Rica. I plan on buying my iPad Mini 5 with AppleCare+ on the upcoming "Black Friday" on November 29,2019.

I always buy AppleCare+ with my iPads.

I always have insurance on the vehicles I own... 😉

in other words... Apple Care is a no brainer. One less thing to worry about especially with the iPad pros. Apple doesn’t replace the screens on the pros. if you don’t have AC you’ll be out some pretty big coin for a replacement unit.

Actually, I looked it up and here it says coverage will end two years after the day of purchase of Apple Care+ Service.

This is correct. I purchased mine 55 days after buying the iPad Pro and the 2 years expires from the AC purchase date, not the iPad purchase date.
