Yes since microsoft took over skype it gone down hill. I used to use it a lot at work etc with suppliers.

Well saturday evening skype on my imac was ok and said it had an update.
So sent a few messages to a friend then clicked on the update.

Once skype reopened after the update...
"it looks like someone else has access to your account, we need to change your password"

So ok I change it, of course this also messed up my thunderbird email app and had change the password.

So this morning get to work and my macbook pro also has the update.
OK so changed password saturday and it asked for new password in skype and thunderbird.
Input new password in both apps and all good.

apply the update to skype on the macbook pro.....
Guess what? Same issue and need change password!

So changed it AGAIN!
But will be deleting skype and will not use again!

Am I alone with this or have other had same/similar issue?

Got the update message today, no issues.

For my use I don't know of a real alternative for Skype. I move around a lot for work, often remote (desert) locations and often don't have internet. Skype is a godsend for friends and family to be able to call my cell phone - cheaply. If an internet connection is available everyone seems to use WhatsApp, but to call overseas to a cell or landline, Skype all the way (except in some of the Arabian Gulf where its blocked!).

for voice calls my friend uses voip (sipgate) average of 2-3 pence a min to call anywhere in world.

he can ring his son cell in USA cheaper than he can call his landline from regular phone!
I have whatsapp too.

maybe i just unlucky with this update? I dunno

Sipgate won't work for my use case. Skype means friends and family just have to install an app, which most have had for years, maybe buy a bit of credit, or if they have Office 365 use their free credit, and dial. Sipgate wants to be your landline replacement, a different thing.
