I'm getting 840 evo 500 gb but how can I manage my files from current HDD?

Hey guys, i know i have a thread about 840 evo and pro..but this is a different subject but related to EVO.

Apparently i have mac pro 2009 with main HDD with capacity 639 gb..and i've used 525 gbs. I want to get 500 gb because 750gb is too much $ wise. I do have an additional 1tb HDD. What would be a good way to manage files without losing or deleting files or whatever. I got audio files and editing files as well...an school related files...and I can't believe it took 525 gb. I know i have to clone to get my files to samsung sdd. Should I put majority of files onto my 1tb hdd and clone the essential files on ssd (hopefully it would be less than 500 gb?

I'm planning to figure how to manage files before i get SDD. I don't know if i'm making sense... This issue is holding me back from getting the SDD... please help. thank you.

Seriously consider a clean installation on the SSD, then copy the frequently used or performance sensitive files to the SSD. Copy the rest to the 1 TB. Leave the 639 connected for an alternate boot drive in case the SSD gets hosed.

For projects, consider storing projects on the 1TB, and copying the project to the SSD when you're actively working on it. This will give you good performance without filling the SSD with occasionally used files (and will also give you a backup of the project in case something goes wrong).

how is this possible without cloning first? or maybe i can clone important ones and transfer others in 1tb hdd and then clean install SDD?

I keep everything on my 256 GB SSD except for iTunes media, my collection of software installers, my virtual machines, and some password protected folders. My entire clone size however is 1.6TB.

It works way better than a fusion drive and I know what is where.
