I'm getting a Mac Pro finally.....

Getting it, selling my iMac, gonna order tomorrow or wednesday probably,as long as th black friday deals dont apply to edu store.My question is, is it stupid to get the 2.0 instead of the 2.66? I use aperture on it mostly, and im gonna get the x1900.it would be 2254 vs. 2523 and then adding another gig of ram for now, more later.

The 2.0 isn't really that much cheaper than the 2.66 (especially when you factor in the difference in performance). The bigger question would be whether you really are going to need to buy the x1900. If you are doing mostly 2-D stuff, you aren't going to see tremendous benefits. And you might be better off spending the money on some choice of more ram, the 2.66 processor, or additional hard disk space. Unless, of course, you plan on playing games and then the x1900 might be worthwhile (I didn't buy my mac pro to play games, so I'm not going to pretend that my considerations match those of others), although since many games aren't optimized for multiple processors, it may be worthwhile to have a faster processor speed, too.

well from what ive heard tghe x1900 is a huge upgrade in aperture, which is the main reason for my upgrade anyway. i will think about te 7300 and getting mroe ram though.

I'm not going to pretend to know the details of working with Aperture (I do statistical computing, so a 3d graphics card is not all that useful), but this link may be useful:

Again, the 2.0 GHz model seems a bit over priced for the performance drop, not substantially cheaper for a 75% of the power of the 2.66 GHz version. Likewise, the 3.00 GHz model is a premium for an additional 12% performance gain.

He is exactly right. Save the money on the X1900 and go for the 2.66ghz model. If you find that you need the X1900 later, you can always buy it then.
