I'm getting a MBP in a hour.

I was gonna get a new imac, but i thought i mase well get a Macbook Pro.

So i just wanna find out if there worth it before i take the plunge, do they have many problems? I'm gonna be using it all the time, it will be my main computer. So i don't want it breaking down on me. What's the audio like in them to, im using Bose speakers. will in sound worse that my current imac?

Anyone got any advice or words they can share before i take the plunge?
 
don't hold your decision on the vocal minority here. thousands more have bought the MBP and had no issue with it. i've had no issue with mine, friends have had no issue with their SR MBPs (the current models).

the sound, as usual for laptops, isn't exactly perfect. use the external speakers.
 
the audio is pretty good while there is something playing, but (using the 2.5mm jack) when the sound card powers down there is a slight buzz...I'm not sure if it's there with the optical out too

I thought i was part of the 'vocal minority' on this site, i haven't had a single issue and have lost a substantial portion of my so-called life:p to the rapturous delight of this beautiful creature.
 
I have had 3 macbooks and yesterday bought my first Pro...here i am at 6am using it instead of sleeping. mine was fine but seeing yellow due to all the threads here....buy it...love the pro keyboard!

Is the buzz constant? This is putting me off abit haha.

when it's not muted and sound hasn't been used for a minute or more it can start buzzing. only a tiny bit, and it stops completely when sound is being pumped out.

i just keep mine muted when i'm not using it with big speakers. you don't notice it on headsets or the internal speakers really. it'll likely be fixed in a software/firmware/driver update too.

Hah..I know the feeling. The first week I had it, my wife asked what I was doing. I told her I was working when, in fact, I was just getting to know my newest girlfriend ;)

The MBP is a great machine. I recommend it highly. On the buzzing front, I usually get it when my mobile phone or cordless phone is activated by an incoming call. I attributed this to insufficient shielding on the external speakers (which are cheapo Logitech R-10's, BTW).
 
I love my MBP! Though I got it mostly just to surf the net and use with my iPhone, it's nice knowing it's powerful enough for the once every few months I use Photoshop. Why didn't I just get a MB? Screen size.

All I use are laptops now, gave up on desktops a few years ago.

Another difference I notice between my HP laptop and my MBP is when I use my Sprint USB broadband card. I put my notebooks to sleep rather than powering off. With my HP laptop, lots of times it wouldn't recognize my broadband card after waking up and I would have to switch USB ports or reboot. With my MBP I have never had to do this, it always knows my card is plugged in.

As for the audio question, I often use Klipsch 2.1 speakers with my MBP. They sound great. I notice if I have my iPhone near the MBP, I will get a weird interference when it checks email or when the phone is about to ring. It's not noticeable with the built in speakers.

It's the GSM buzz. Don't worry, it's normal interference between GSM phones and speakers. I tend to think of it as a pre-ring. :) It drives the phones here at work crazy.
 
I've had my MBP for about a month, absolutely no problems. Fastest computer I've ever had, never going back to windows, bla bla bla like what everyone else is saying.

Another important thing to note: I didn't realize how good the portability was until i got the machine. I've taken my MBP to about 3 trips, and it's been great. Go for the MBP

Wow, the guy in that article mentions he had that interference in his car when the phone switches cell towers. I have not had that happen.

I do it here it occasionally when I listen to a talk show on XM radio. Somebody on the show has a GSM phone and that sound will actually get broadcast over the air every so often.
