3G ... Got in friday...

I've been out using it all day... Up and out since noon (when battery was at 100%) using gps and 3G quite a bit while driving out east... Back home and it was plugged into my Mac Pro for maybe an hour while I worked on photos and synced... and now at nearly 1am I'm still at 46%!

I am thrilled with my iPad... Have really enjoyed it... But the battery life is BETTER than I expected!

The battery life is probably the single best thing about the iPad for me (among a lot of pretty great things). I really don't think any other tablet manufacturer is going to come close any time soon. Apple has both the optimized software (iPhone OS with lots of power saving optimizations, running native Objective-C code without CPU-sucking middleware such as Flash or Java) and the optimized hardware (custom A4 chip, which is likely an ARM8 with all non-essential instructions stripped out, PowerVR SGX graphics). The fact that they were able to achieve that along with such a high-quality IPS screen, which are known to be power hogs, is amazing. It's the first mobile device I've ever owned where I can charge it at night and then just never worry it's going to run out of juice during the day, no matter what I'm doing with it.

Although I do agree with you 100% that the battery life is impressive and a complete shock at just how good it is, it will be interesting to see how long it sustains it and how we think of it in say 6mths time.
