Hello,
I'm looking to buy a used Mac Pro. Preferably a (2008 2.8GHz 8 Core Xeon) one. I have looked all through the Craigslist's in my area and nothing has come up. Haven't really searched through Ebay yet, I do know about Macofalltrades.com and have been looking at one there, but, I would like some other used sites that you guys know about that sell Mac Pro's. I would really appreciate it!

Thanks a lot.

I would search around on eBay until you can find a nice one that meets your needs. Remember that the first-generation Mac Pro did not support 64-bit EFI. You may want to look at a used 2009 or 2010 model (A Quad 2.93GHz or 3.33GHz) would be nice to have, along with an 8-core 2.93GHz, also good. I would start there.

do you have access to the MacRumors marketplace?

You should also try craigslist with the caveat that most used MP's are overpriced.

Your BEST value will be from the Apple refurb store! IMHO!

cheers

The 2008 Mac Pro 2.8GHz does have a 64-bit EFI...? Am I wrong? But thanks for the advice anyways! I would like to get a 2009 or 2010 model just too much money! I need a display also. And I would like to get a used 30" Cinema Display. Getting a 2009 would throw me way over my budget.. :/

They have great deals on CTO bundles and refurbs though. I was not sure of your budget as the 8-cores still command a decent price.

True, the 8-Core's are still pricey! Yeah, I wish I had the money too buy refurb or new. But, I just cant' justify spending that much on the CPU alone. I would but, I need a monitor also...

Yes, the 2008 MP has 64 bit EFI. I got a 2.8GHz Octo with 14GB of ram off eBay for £870 a couple of months ago, love it to pieces.

The advantage of a 2009 model is that you can apply the Flash updater patch and enable it to accept Westmere 6-core processors. In that regards the 2009 is a good investment because it gives you a solid upgrade path to a 6-core (or 12-core) Mac Pro.

You have a good point there. But, the price of just new processors for the thing is absurd. I mine as well buy a brand new (Lets says 2012) Mac Pro at that point..

Sure, on 32 bit GeekBench this is with a standard HDD (not SSD) and stock GPU (ATI 2600 XT 256 MB): 10280

Wow. Thats as fast as an iMac:rolleyes:
Im' kidding, of course. Stupid geekbench and it's lack of actual system benching.

Also, I bought off of Ebay. The seller was: applepartsnw. They shipped it quickly and it was as described.

Also, they have several of the 2008 machines in stock now it seems. Should go for 1300-1400 shipped.

Note: I am not affiliated with applepartsnw in any way, just a satisfied customer.

That's awesome! That trumps my current iMac! Man, that much speed would be amazing...! Thanks for doing that! Appreciate it.

My 2008 with 8 cores @ 3.0Ghz scores 12,042 in 64 bit (as another point of reference).

Even better! Wow, really makes me want to own a Mac Pro. I'm tired of the performance of my 2008 iMac.

I'll have to look them up. Sounds like a good deal! Thanks a lot for the info, really appreciate it!

Hey guys,
Just wanted to let you know I found a Mac Pro on Ebay. Bided on it, and won:) Paid about $1,400 for a 2008 2.8GHz 8 Core Mac Pro. The machine came with 4GB Ram and 3x500GB,1x320 HDD. So, pretty good deal I think. Well, I hope so. Even if it's not, I'm glad I have a Mac Pro now. Always wanted one. Thanks for all the info, really appreciated it! Much thanks.

5870 and its price tag of $449 is better than gtx 285 but for $160 of an original GTX 285 you can't go wrong not to mention it is better than 5770 and it's hard to come by.

Congrats! That is a pretty sweet deal, roughly what I paid for MacPro 1,1 (2006) 18 months ago. Mine had 7Gb of RAM, but yours has 8 cores vs my older and slower 4 cores.
