I'm missing "part" of my HD

So, I'm trying to install windows through bootcamp. I'm at the partition stage in the BC assistant. I choose to make it into a 18gb windows partition. It's going along like it's partitioning and then it freezes, progress bar isn't moving. So i quite the assistant, canceling the partitioning process.

Unfortunately, now I'm missing 18gb on my hd. If i look in Disk Utility i see:
Capacity: 111.3
Available: 23.4
Used: 70.6

70+23=93 111-93= 18...i have a missing "partition/thing" out floating...

I've tried repairing the disk and the permissions. Nothing...

What do I try next?

I see 1 big partition that is 111gb. The HD knows it's there...but the OSX "partition" doesn't "own" it.

In that case the only thing I'd know to do is reformat the whole drive.

I'd wait on that though, as someone more knowledgeable than me may happen by soon.

to the OP, you shoudn't have cancelled the partitionning process. you will probably have to format the whole drive to get it back.

boot camp

I would try opening Boot Camp again and chose the option to revert to original. As in try to delete the partition Boot Camp made. I'm at work on a PC so I can't look it up, and don't remember the exact wording of it, but I know there's a selection to return to before Boot Camp, it will give you an option to revert back. If that doesn't work, someone with Terminal knowledge might be able to help you. Good luck.

Back up anything important, then run the Boot Camp Assistant again and see whether it can repartition or restore the drive. It can sometimes take 20-30 minutes to partition and won't always show its progress, just be patient

Try using a linux live cd to fix it... most of them have partitioning software on them... Knoppix I believe is the most popular for fixing partions

I think most Linux CDs expect MBR disks, and will probably totally screw up the GPT disks used by Macs.

well.... I do know that you can install Ubuntu linux 7.04 on a macbook no problem.... if that makes a difference.

Yea...I know...I'm impatient though, that's how i screw up my mac everytime.

Well no duh

I was just saying that since it can install it shouldn't have a problem partitioning the HD. An in no way was I implying he install linux but he can use a live cd to partition the drive.
