I'm not getting Software Updates

I've run into an issue I can't find any info on. Software Update sees an iPhoto update available but it won't install it because my OS X version is below 10.8.2. I'm running 10.8 and there are no OS updates visible in the store.

I was previously running the ML preview. Could that have something to do with it?

Any similar experiences out there?

Try downloading the 10.8.2 update manually and install:

Same here but, for a different reason, as I am running 10.8.2.
The iPhoto and iMovie updates pops up and if I try to download one, I get jumped to the Apple store. Catch 22 here, as while I have an Apple ID, I do not have a credit card, and thus can't complete the registration process for the Apple Store or download free apps. In the iPhoto case, the update info says it is a paid download. That sounds strange to me as both of these apps came with the MBP I bought from the Apple Store using a friends Credit Card. Probably should call Apple about that but I don't use them enough to go to the trouble.

iLife comes pre-installed with every Mac, I believe you only have to "activate" it through the App Store for updates. Sounds like you are having problems with your Apple ID and getting it to work with the App Store. I don't recall it requiring a credit card as I have friends who only purchase free apps and paid apps using an iTunes gift card, no credit card at all.

For me it takes it Searching for updates for about 5 minutes before I can download them. Not sure why it needs to take that long.

You don't have to use an iTunes gift card, that's just an example of what people use if they don't have a credit card. Neither are really required.

You should be able to select "payment method none" (see "Creating an account on a computer"):

Maybe it was reading your post or the link you provided, or maybe the cosmic rays, but today when I signed in to test your suggestion, the App Store skipped the usual payment method page and let me download the free app I wanted.
Somebody watching us at Apple????????

On that image, you can read what the problem is... login into itunes store (in the itunes app) with your apple id.
