I'm not worthy of my PB 1.67, 1.5 GB G4...

I only use my laptop for checking email, surfing the net and the word program (Office for Macs). Now and again I use the calendar feature to see what day a certain obligation will fall on or something like that, and occasionally I go to one of those online radio stations to hear music. I've watched a movie, once when I first got the laptop, but not since. I don't have an ipod. I'd like to get a video camera someday but for now we don't have one and we probably won't for a long time (or ipod) cause of money.

So that's it - that's all I use it for. I'd love to read about (in some detail) ALL the things you guys use your laptops for. I thought maybe I could get inspired to use some of the other features/programs! I'm sure there are lots of things I would use if I even realized they existed or weren't just for professionals or hard-core computer geeks (which I label, lovingly, of course!).

I use Garageband constantly, wether it's just for playing around or recording. I'm a big guitar player. I eat, live, and breath guitar. I'm not sure about getting in detail about it, pretty straight up.

And I keep all my DVD's ripped and organized. Watch them all the time on my iMac.
 
I record tv shows using eye tv 200. I hook my tivo up to it and record those shows and burn to dvd so i can watch things later. I use garage band a lot making ****** tracks of my ****** guitar playing and some half ass attempt to play a few chords on the piano. I suck but I am in love with myself and my mom thinks I am freaking awesome...even at my age!
I burn dvds a lot and run photoshop every day. I work with large photos and often do digital paintings on my wacom in photoshop where my file sizes are around 100-170 mb. I think an ibook can run with that, but in truth, I wasn't willing to find out.

Oh and I like shinny things and the powerbook was so slick it made my head spin.

Editing photos, surfing, IM'ing, emailing, writing papers, any real schoolwork that needs a computer, watching DVDs, Celestia, Google Earth, editing my web site, minimal Xcode and Terminal work, iTunes for my iPod, burning CDs, ripping my DVDs, exporting DVD audio tracks to my iPod from my DVDs, lots of Dashboard, Spotlight and Quicksilver to keep track of all my files. :)
 
I use my iBook for websurfing, IM, email and JS/HTML coding. When I come back to my dorm, I use my iMac almost exclusively ... that is, until I clear some desk space for the iBook and connect it via Synergy. ;)
 
oh dear, this is going to make me look/feel sad :(

IM (when there's an internet connection, i'm on MSN), note writing, garageband, photo processing, web design, web browsing, email checking, my entire music collection resides in itunes, watching movies and tv shows (external monitor), keeping track of my life and finances.

there's probably loads more, but that's everyday use.
 
Firstly, using your 'puter to its max doesn't make you 'worthy' of it! check out the thread on my gf's mbp (https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/185854/)!!!

anyhoo, i use my powerbook for everything in ilife, from garageband to iphoto, i also use t'internet, take notes on it, syncing my ipods etc etc etc, games (kinda), watching DVD's, oh, and like jessica said...its shiny!
 
Just think of the computer as an investment over the next 5 years. If you use it everyday for 5 years then you got your money's worth and you've been able to update your MySpace account constantly!

You will be worthy, just not yet. And if anything I'll gladly trade you my iBook for your MBP :)
 
Websurfing, IMing, writing papers, and listening to music mostly. Once I upgrade the amount of memory, I plan on doing some more Photoshop work, as it seems a bit slow with only 512MB of RAM. I've messed around with iMovie and really love it. Although I have no project I'm currently working on, I'm in a broadcasting class, where we will be doing some editing work this semester, and will probably use that program as opposed to Pinnacle (hey, the professor said if we have a better program to use, we can). A friend and I are talking about writing and putting together a short film sometime soon, and I'd most likely use my iBook for that.
 
I use my ibook for office, e mail, internet, itunes, iphoto, light photoshop, adium, DVD watching, addresses, warcraft III... I guess that's about it. I use it all day long for school, but the actual number of programs I run isn't that high (nor are the programs that exotic).
 
I do a lot with my Mac, but I'm sure there's someone out there who does more than I do. :)

- check my calculus homework (Maple 9.5)
- DJ parties (iTunes)
- lots of web work (DreamWeaver, Transmit, Unison)

I'm sure there's more ... but it's 1am.
 
Let's see, I use my iBook for:
1. Mail (IMAP and Exchange accounts)
2. iChat
3. iCal (this is extremely important)
4. Notetaking (Office)
5. Photoshop
6. Maintaining spreadsheets (Office)
7. Creating presentations (Office)
8. iTunes
9. Address book (to sync with my cell phone)
10. Language translations (translation widget or Sherlock)
11. Document conversions (via Automator)
12. Create *.pdf

When I'm at home, however, I almost exclusvely use my new Intel 20" iMac. :D

I only use the iBook when I am in class or at work.

PS - just because you don't use your PowerBook to the max does not mean that you are unworthy of it! I didn't seriously use my iBook for a year or so...I know it took me some time before I starting putting it to the test, anyway...
 
I've been a Mac convert for almost two months go and haven't had the time to get into automator or any of the other snazzy things, but here's my list anyways.
  • the daily stuff (email, attendence, web surfing, word processing, etc.)
  • Adobe InDesign CS2 to produce our 240 page yearbook
  • iCal to figure out where I am supposed to be and when
  • Adobe Photoshop Elements 3.0
  • iDVD
  • watching episodes of Red vs. Blue
  • iPhoto for downloading photos from my Kodak digi camera and keeping them organized
  • iTunes for all of my MP3s
  • Dashboard to keep a countdown to all my important events as well as some other fun things

I think that's about it for now. But I'm sure I'll be adding to the list once we're out of school for the summer. :D

For the most part, I'm constantly doing something on my PowerBook.
 
I do a bit of everything on mine and spend lots of time on it. Usually pretty basic stuff though, so I guess I'm not really "worthy" either. However I like the fact I can do all of the basic stuff with very few problems. :)

Excel
Webdesign with Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Fireworks, etc
Photo editing with iPhoto and Photoshop
Video editing and DVD authoring with Final Cut Pro and DVD Studio Pro
A little programming with XCode and terminal
Electrical Engineering work with MI-SUGAR, Matlab, and occasionally a couple PC only apps in Virtual PC.

Those are the main things I do on my Macs (all but the video editing on my PowerBook). Of course I do other stuff, but not seriously, just messing around.
