Does anyone have any reviews on IM+ for the iPad? I am considering buying the app however I wanted to gauge the general opinion from other iPad users that have purchased the app.

How does push work, if you walk away from the iPad and the screen turns off or hit the top button to turn off the screen do you still get audible push notifications or do you just get a slew of reminders when you unlock it?

A solid IM client is one of the missing links for me, just looking for some opinions. The page for this in the Apps section was hard to sort out iPhone users vs. iPad users so I thought I would post here. (They really should have separate forums)

Thanks

Works exactly as the iphone one. Audible alerts to push notifications even when on LockScreen. Orientation changes the sidebar layout just like other iPad apps. Has a ful-lsized browser that you can toggle hide/unhide. Very few bugs so far. Mostly due to changing orientation. I am glad they made the iPad version a free upgrade from the iPhone version. I am very pleased over all with it, and use it everyday.

I love it over the standard AIM app. Push works well when you are using the ipad. I actually am not sure if it works when the iPad is locked... but I will test that for you now. Yep, I locked it and sent myself a message and it chirped. Now if you leave it locked for a long time the Wifi will turn off to save power and it won't chirp. I learned this the hard way a few times. For some reason on AIM.. IMs coming in this state would only be sent to IM+ and not on my PC. So I would be sitting here frustrated because I thought the people I was talking with on the ipad were ignoring me.. but they wern't.. all of the IM's were being sent to the ipad. Not a big deal though.. I just get in the habit of signing off if I'm not using the ipad for awhile.

I also wanted to mention the built in browser in the app. It makes it so much easier to send and share links with your friends without having to keep switching apps. Thats what sold it for me.. that and the multiple messenger support.

Thanks, I think I'll go ahead and buy it. If you wanted to go to your PC to IM is it easy to turn off the app?

Since its a universal app does that mean I can install it on my iPhone without paying twice?

Can anyone elaborate more on the built-in browser? Can you chat & surf at the same time?

Yeah when I bought it on the ipad it appeared on my iphone when i synced it with itunes. Yeah there's a little icon in the top right of the app (a silhouette of a little person) you tap that then there are little ON/OFF switches for all of your saved messenger clients.

I stopped using IM+ for the iPad and switched to AIM. While using IM+ sometimes the keyboard will bug out on me in either landscape or portrait. Sometimes I'll click the keyboard and it will popup, but the text area will be hidden. I can still send IM's but it'd be nice to know what I was sending. The fix requires me to change orientations, hide the keyboard, then reshow it.

It happened quite a bit and got very annoying.

I bought it but never use. I don't like it. It's too complicated and I can't make Skype call.

Has any MSN Messenger apps come out for the iPad, omr any IM apps that would include it? Since I don't use aim, that app wasn't worth it, and I'm kinda worried about just bringing the iPhone app over to the iPad.

I'd also like a nice MSN capable client. All of my classmates and instructors use MSN for some reason.

Edit: Just realized IM+ supports MSN/Live Messenger.

Only problem is - if you're like me and see it as a problem, is that it's $10 for the app and all I'll most likely use on it is MSN Messenger. I'm willing to wait it out for a free, or at least cheap, msn app.;) Hopefully it's not a long wait!

I'm kind of hoping eBuddy releases an iPad app soon so I don't have to spend 10 bucks on this.

I bought it yesterday.

The UI is not pleasant or refined. I bought it spescifically to give me a full-screen IM experience on the iPad and, yet, despite spending the $10 on it, I am going to stick with Beejive in x2 mode (which isn't exactly pretty) until Beejive gets their arse in gear and releases a proper iPad version.

Stupid things like putting floating transparent buttons on the main chat window just wind me up. Did they do it just to be "flash"? You have a tool bar that is barely used, yet you put a button in the chat window to open the browser?

The tool bar icons don't make much sense based on the functions either.

Then there are some silly bugs regarding losing the last couple of messages if I change orientation and then not letting me scroll to see them manually

And finally the notifications don't seem that reliable. I cannot recall a time when I've not gotten a Beejive notification for an IM when I was out of the Beejive app. Yet in the space of just an hour last night I had multiple messages that did not have accompanying notifications in IM+.

If you have the app open, however, it generally works very nicely.

All that said, at least IM+ HAVE an iPad version of their product. Beejive and Trillian can't even be bothered to respond to requests for information about such a thing.

I'm not brand-loyal ... first party to have a truly usable, non-ugly, reliable IM client will get my next purchase. I don't begrudge Shape Services my $10 :)

I mean we're only a week or so into the iPad expeirence.. hopefully these minor GUI bugs will get squashed soon. None of them are deal breakers for me though.

I just bought this app. Its not bad or anything, but i wish beejive would come out with their own iPad version, preferably a version where I don't have to spend another $10. Sadly I haven't heard any news regarding beejive for iPad.

It sucks. I got the update free since i have the iPhone version and i agree that the UI is horrendous.

I would wait for beejive.

They also don't take advantage of the extra real estate. It's a pity.

I got tired of waiting for ebuddy to make an ipad app so I bought this and it's alright. I like it for the most part, but the UI needs refined, and the keyboard bug is annoying, but not too bad.

anybody use this after the new update they just pushed out?
any better reviews? still wondering if i should purchase or wait til beejive comes out with one..
