but in a good way. I went back to the local Best Buy to compare the Macbook to the Macbook Pro. I've been pretty convinced I wanted the 2.4ghz white macbook. Then along came a spider, err..., the Macbook Air. Screen blew me away. Such colors. I'm screwed. My wants just overtook my needs. :cool:

Wait until you spill coffee into it and make a poor performing paper weight...Then you are screwed.

It's true. Once you've seen the air screen, you can never go back to a MacBook.

Once you see the tapered design, the port "door", the location of magsafe and the huge screen bezel you'll never want a MBA again.

All IMO of course.

The MBA has everything you would normally use. It's not for people who are picky.

just think about how often you use all the ports and DVD-driver on iMAC. I own a iMAC, so I know all the ports and DVD-drive lost on MBA is the part I seldom used in the past years......., Lucky, I have no pain at all to get the MBA.

I saw a Macbook Air for the first time in the flesh at MediaMarkt in Elche, Spain :D. It was sitting next to the Macbook and MacBook Pro. It is thinner than I thought it would be and very nice. I suppose if you travel a lot and need something that is easy to carry then its ideal. You are definitely paying for the size. The only thing that puts me off is the non-removable battery.

I already have a Macbook and am very happy with it as it caters for all my needs.

The MacBook Air screen is definitely a stunner. Bright, colourful and really crisp. It's a world above the MacBook screen.

Mind you the MacBook screen I'm using now at it's lowest brightness is about as bright as my iBook G4's screen could ever hope to get.

That thing was great for colour but damn it was dim.

Yep, I'm screwed. But I'm a realist enough to know that there will be a refresh, even a slight one at some point soon. I also assume right before that or at that point, refurbs will start to show up. I have the patience to wait until June to see what, if anything, happens in June at WWDC.

I can 100% Agree with scott. If i had $1800 to blow I'd be typing on a Macbook Air. I can honestly say I NEVER use my DVD Drive. I've put in maybe 3 CDs since I've owned it (2 years) and only one was necessary. USB? I use an external drive for time machine and hook up my ipod from time to time, perhaps a printer, none of which are required to be running at the same time.

All of you on here whining about functionality, etc, live and let live. Some people just don't use the same utilities as you, and some people will sacrifice maximum functionality for maximum portability.

Game over, if you don't like it, don't buy the air, and especially don't troll the Air forums.

How do you install software and rip DVDs?

I'm in the process of handbraking all my dvd's for my ipod touch (and soon to own gen2 iphone). So, if I end up with the air, I'll just transfer over what I want to watch. No big deal. Plus I already have a usb DVD burner. Not that often I need a drive. On the flip side, my son fell in love with the MBP today. He's going to dual major next year in pre-med and computer science. Figures the future of medicine is all about computers. He wants the extra horsepower, but he wants the graphics card for playing WOW (he honestly thinks he'll have time for gaming!)

I can't help it but to correct students and their parents that 'pre-med' is not a major. There is just no such thing, ever, anywhere. Students can take courses to help them with their MCAT, but it's not a degree. They are recommended to major in one of the basic or life sciences. Admission to medical school is VERY competitive. You want to strategically select a program that will help you with your MCAT, and minimize taking other intensive courses that do not relate to the MCAT, such as those required by CS.

In general, I am also not sure if a double major in CS and life science is a good idea. There are both highly demanding programs, with very few courses common to both degrees, even in the first year. He is better off focusing in one area first, and then learning the other.

Did he actually talk to a counsellor to make sure that such a double major is possible? Don't just assume you can do it.
