anyone know whats going on?

If you are getting sparkles/colored static during game play, or something that taxes the GPU -- the GPU could be overheating.

That type of stuff you show is just likely a driver or codec issue.

yeah, sorry. i fixed the size of the images. i didnt realise they were big until i previewed my post.
anyway, ive tried calibrating the monitor. ive reset smc and nvram etc. ive even tried bashing the monitor really hard... nothing seems to work that ive tried.

i dont play games. i have noticed that my notebook is always very hot. it sits at around 65 degree celsius most of the time. how do i stop it overheating if that is the problem?

it doesnt just happen on video. it happens everywhere! notice of the wikipedia page on the first screen shot the black colours. notice on the force unleashed website screenshots, its the black on the website that magically turns sparkly red. notice on the boot-up screen shot it isnt grey, its blue and there is a grey outline where the apple logo and the ticker is. notice on the screenshot with the japanese writing on the video in vlc that on my desktop background the star wars clone trooper's gun should be completly black but there is some sparkly red.

i first noticed this problem on my usb drive icons on the desktop where the yellow/orange had green lines going through it, and then on some websites and videos there were green lines too. now its gotten worse and the green has turned to red but only on grey/black colours.

Well Beating it will not help.

You likely have either a bad contact, Video chipset, or even a dying diode someplace in your video system. It appears that he screen is working fine, it is just getting a disrupted or dirty signal.

This looks like it is going to require a repair from Apple.

Overheating affects the entire screen at the same time, usually it'll be random single colored static.

When it is in a window, or a pictures keep getting fragged -- it can "usually" be traced to a software issue.

Trying to add a new user to see if the issue follows to the new user can be worth a shot.

Edit: New user and starting in safe mode are usually good ways to eliminate most of the "software" possibilities.

*** Though flushing the browsers cache is usually the one to try first.

ok, here is a screenshot taken by osx of the japanese video. this (i guess) is what it should look like. please let me know if you see the red on your screen.

i logged out and restart in safe mode and the problem still happens. notice the boot-up screenshot where the colour that's supposed to be grey is actually blue striped.

I never thought of it in that way. I figured since it was manifesting itself in both Safari, and Quicktime, that it was likely not a software issue.

That is a brilliant troubleshooting idea for this! :)

No red for me. Everything looks okay.

I thought I spotted something off in that. I am afraid that my thoughts on this may be correct. It appears to be hardware. It may be something as simple as a bad contact, or as complicated as a logic board issue.

I sure hope this isn't the modern version of the infamous G3 and G4 iBook logic board issues! I have a Macbook and don't want to go through that ever again!

i had my logic board replaced a few months ago but my MBP is over 1 year old (and therefore no more warranty). if it is the logic board will it be covered under warranty or not?

sorry man, but I just don't see a thing. where are these red sparkles? it looks totally normal to me.

Most likely it won't be covered, they usually cover them within 30 days of the repair. Since it's been a few months, and now your 1 year is up I don't think you're in luck. You didn't bother to get applecare?

thats probably because you're looking at the picture just above and not the ones in the first post...

i really regret not getting :apple:care! i just assumed that because it was apple then it would work!

Haha at first I was looking for what everyone else is looking for. :)

Look at pictures 5 and 6. That red in the picture/video isn't supposed to be there. It's not necessarily "red sparkles" as much as it's black that's for some reason being displayed as red on your monitor. I'd assume a graphics problem, certainly not something software-related.

Also, in the picture with the quicktime video, those bars at the top and bottom should be pure black. (Think letterbox.)

I am looking at the pics in your original post. all i can see is that they are taken with a camera so it looks bad, and there are reflections and brightness differences on the screen. i see no sparkles, or any red, or anything like that. looks like a normal screen.

oh, now i see it!!!! omg! i thought those things were supposed to be red! ha. looks like a graphics card problem to me.

you can see what the star wars website should look like here (without the red) http://www.theforceunleashed.com

can this be anything to do with the class-action lawsuit that happening at the moment in california about the displays only being able to display thousands of colours instead of the advertised millions of colours?

even though its out of warranty do you think i could get it repaired for free if i quote this lawsuit?

It's not sparkles its more like just red coloring where it should be black.

I put the pix together so you all can see the issue..

thanks...
you cant really tell unless you can see it, but it definitely sparkles on my computer. it almost seems as if the synchronisation of 1 colour is out. does this make sense?

Probably graphical artifacts due to broken gpu (or one running so hot that it generates errorus results.)

Hard to see from the images but if different graphical loading things give you weird effects on the screen which shouldn't be there it's probably it.
