I'm transitioning to the Mac world after 40 years of being a PC guy because of work requirements. I've been waiting for the new Apple Silicon Macs to replace an 8 year old PC that I actually assembled myself. I did not want a laptop and my needs are basic enough to not justify an iMac; Intel or otherwise. Never seriously considered a M1 Mini but the more I read what others reported, I decided it was the perfect solution for me. I'm lucky there's an Apple store 10 minutes from me so I ordered an 8/512 Mini on Thursday and picked it up Friday. Bought a Magic keyboard and mouse with the Mini. I'm using my old Asus 24" 1080p monitor and Logitech speakers for now.

Setup went fine. We actually have a 2007 iMac that we never turn on but I was able to borrow its wired mouse to help with the initialization of the Mini. Some fits and starts initially as macOS is completely foreign to me. But today I was able to move most of my critical data off my old PC to the cloud for use with the Mini.

Even retired, I still do a lot of personal planning and analysis with Excel. So with my fingers crossed, I downloaded Office 365 from the App Store this afternoon. Slick as snot. As soon as I opened my first Excel file, the system prompted me to download Rosetta 2. That was easy peasy and in a few short minutes I was working with all my old PC-based Excel files on a new Apple Silicon Mac.

We're always reading about folk's frustrations with this or that not working. And while I admit my requirements are pretty simple, I nevertheless did want to share my wonderfully satisfying experience with my new Mac Mini.

Hi! I too bought a new Mini to replace my aging 2015 iMac. Happy to see it is going well. Just wanted to let you know that a new version of Excel designed to run native on m1 is due out soon. I personally have been fine with numbers but I am not some corporate math guy. So..

Anyway enjoy.
