*Correction* I'm starting to lose love for apple, this is why*

I just dont think there apple anymore.

The apple i knew cared about that customers, thats the impression i got from them anyway. Fair enough there a company and have to make money.

I just feel there starting to flop.

I mean. I'm 16 and in full time college.

Couple months back 16+ discounts were available, what do they do now.

Make it 18+

Surely 16+ onwards is about right? I mean..... For the spec i need, the book pro entry level is the one for me. Just the price is just, hardcore for me at this moment. I dont find this very fair on students. I find it utterly disgusting and thoughtless.

As we know

The main reason PCs lead the market is because of the price. You can get a laptop really really cheap, a lot cheaper than mac. (Only reason really......haha)

The only way :apple: are going to get more sales and users is lower prices.

Maybe i'm going mad?

Does anybody see what i'm trying to say?

What you people think.

pcs dont lead the market because they are the cheapest..

its because the apple of old made huge mistakes in the past.

the sad thing is at the moment is that the hardcore apple fanboys are not quite feeling the product line at the moment....and thats a tricky line to follow.

if they try too hard on attracting new customers and switchers with more mainstream looking products its not going to keep the fanbase too happy....and thats where most of the revenue comes from

they must have something way bigger/better down the line or they have for me stopped pushing the boundries and are slowly becoming just another computer manufacturer...which is a sad day

since they started on the iphone, changed to apple inc and quality control started slipping, its just not been the same apple the fanbase are used to over the last 5 or 6 years.

Really? Apple in the UK requires you to be 18 to receive a college education discount? That's crazy. Is that both online and in the Apple retail store?

In the US, as long as you can show you're enrolled in an accredited college, your age won't stop you from getting the educational discount (at the retail store, anyway).

I gave them a ring as well and they said the same thing as on the Apple store instant message chat

You have to be 18?

I find it terrible

I might pop in Apple store and speak to them

The facts you're giving aren't truly right and above that, I don't think it's a good reason to not love Apple because they increased the minimum age limit for a extra discount.

I think Apple is still very creative and innovative but they're really developing into a 'big' company. They don't send a lot of cease and desist letters anymore, because it's become almost impossible to keep their newest creations a secret.

They now also have two designs for both the macbook and the macbook pro, which in my opinion isn't a good decision.

First off, your in college at 16!? VERY impressive sir (I'm 17).

But I can kinda understand what your talking about. The apple of the past focused more on the apple fans and giving them what they wanted. Apple today is trying to widen its base and get as many people on board as possible.

The student discount thing is stupid though. I really dont get why there is an age restriction. If you can prove you go to a college, the discount should be yours whether your 16, 60, 4, it shouldnt matter.

Surely a UK college isn't the same as UK University/US College? Have Apple ever given discounts for UK college?

In England and Wales "College" is for 16-18 year olds. What you call College we call University.
Oh, wow. Yeah, in the US, Apple has only done educational discounts for "university". I thought me meant he was 16 and in "university".

You are right. They could sell more units if the unit price were lower. But selling more units is not Apple's goal. What Apple wants is large per unit profit. Or what they call margins. Apple is different then all the others because they have a very high per unit markup that they can and do invest it back into research and development and it is that R&D that makes Apple different than Dell. If they sold $500 notebooks they'd loose the abilty to fund the R&D.

BMW, SAAB and the like do this with cars. They have no plans to beat Toyota in unit sales and are happy to live in the most profitable 1% and 2% of the market space.

Oh and about the 16 vs. 18 year old education discounts. I think Apple figures that 16 year olds don't buy computers, for the most parts it's their parents buying them. Later as the kids get to be in their 20's it is more lkely the parent's are no involved as much. So offering a discount to high school students is the same as offing a discount to 45 and 50 year old parents. Yes there is a big grey area and they had to pick a number. I'm sure someone at Apple ran some numbers and figured that "18" would maximise profit. What's "fair" never comes into play.

If it were me I'd offer the discount based of if you were claimed as a dependent on your parent's income tax form or not.

That said. I have a 17 year old son. I'd sure like to buy him a computer at discount. If I did I bet he'd let me use it full time. You see where this is going? Apple would be in effect offing the discount to anyone who has kids.

A rule of life: Don't love anything that can't love you back.

This might seem like simplistic or obvious advice, but I've found that few people consider the implications of expressing affection for inanimate objects. If you want to keep your head straight, don't do it.

In my imagination
When I was in college no one whined about stuff as much as these generations. if you couldn't afford a Mac you got a PC and **** and DID WORK!

We didn't whine about student discounts, and we didn't act like the world owed us anything because of our accomplishments or failures.

We did what we had to do and it didn't matter if we whined about it because the truth of life is NO ONE CARES...

Get a machine that you can use and suck it up really. Or get a job like many full time college 16 year olds and get the tools you need to do a good job in life.

Life is more important than electronics. Get a good job and you won't have to worry about than that £50 discount.

Work on your writing, for example.... </grammar nazi>

They do.

Every time someone sees my old MB or my MBP - they love it. Expose, Dashboard, Webclip (they LOVE Webclip), very very popular stuff. They want a piece of that action. THE ONLY reason they don't go and get it, is because of the price. It shocks them.

My neigbours bought a laptop each for both kids, that is as fast and feature-rich as my MBP...for less than I paid for the MBP. Seriously - it's a near impossible case to make when the price of entry is so damn high.

I'm lucky - I'm well paid, I'm in a DINKY household, I can afford a Mac. The majority of people simply can not afford the price Apple are asking for even their basic machines.

Apple COULD have produced a £400ish laptop. Think of the MB from about 18 months ago. They could bash those out nice and cheap and still make a profit. But they don't. They maintain an air of snobbery and high prices to keep the premium customers that will give them the high markup prices.

So their new laptop has Expose, Dashboard, and Webclip? If not then it is not as feature-rich as your MBP. It is running Vista so it is not even close. I would rather have my 2.16MBP than the fastest Vista laptop our right now.
