I was really tempted by the new Motorola Dext phone so im thinking of trying it out for a few months then decide if I will get the next iPhone summer 2010! I did have the 3gs for a short time but O2 signal in my area went to pot so they let me out my contract. I have decided not to order a new 3gs from orange, which was my original plan to do so.

I love the iPhone but im looking foward to a wee change! I am almost sure i will be first in line in my local store to buy the new iphone next summer tho!!!

Have you considered the iPhone's feelings in all of this? A break can be a stressful time for her. What if she isnt ready to let go? What if you come back, but she has found "Mr. Right?" You cant just ask her to drop everything and accept you back into her life when youre ready. Its not all about you!

I actually, did that once, buying and returning various AT&T phones from the Blackberry Bold to the HTC Touch Pro.

Found out that the iPhone was still for me (until they put an OS like that on the HTC Touch Pro2) and not because I develop.

Well, just got my order confirmation from Orange & the new phone in my life is arrving on Thursday, im a wee bit miffed they charge for delivery, O2 dont!

I do feel a bit guilty, which is weird dont you think?

I'm doing the same. I called AT&T last week to cancel my contract. I have three iPhones on my plan so it kinda hurt the wallet, but I can't deal with AT&Ts coverage anymore. I walk down my driveway and go from full bars to no service. All my friends with Verizon have great coverage in places I have no service. My phones will be shut off on November 2nd. I plan on getting the Droid if the early reviews are positive.

I went from iPhone to pay-as-you-go Moto Razr and now I'm back on the iPhone as pay-as-you-go. I couldn't stand not using my iPhone. It really is the only phone out there worth using.

I'm really interested how this will end. I say do it! I'm curious if you decide to get the iPhone 4G in June 2010. Good luck! :)
And as mentioned above, be careful, don't just throw your iPhone away: her feelings will be hurt.

What did you get?

Motorola Dext on Orange. I will decide for sure once it arrives as i dont want to commit unless i can put up with it at least for a few months.

Well im pretty sure that it will be a sure thing!!! Unless its not much different then im not sure, i think it would have to be pretty radical changes next summer to tempt me to buy!

Let us know how it goes. I have a 3GS, but I miss the keyboard on my Bold.

I may switch back to a Blackberry for my next phone, or maybe not. I would have a hard time finding something that matches the function of my iPhone.

Well it goes without saying that nothing out there can match the iPhone but i have to say the Motorola Dext comes very close. It took a bit of getting used to & im still working my way around the differences but I have to say im quite impressed. I did need a break from the iphone, its brilliant but i like a change & i used to change mobiles at least twice a year but hadnt since the first iphone! and i HAD to have every new iphone the first day it was released

That said, I dont think i will rush back to iphone unless there are significant changes next summer, I will continue using the original iphone i went back to using, just as a ipod & use the games on it. :apple::D:cool:

I didnt last with the Motorola Dext!! If I hadnt already known the iPhone then it might have lasted but really nothing can compare to the iPhone! Im back using my original iphone as I had sold my 3G when i got the 3GS but obviously had to return the 3GS coz they let me out my contract! I might manage to wangle a basic 8gb 3G for a few months but even if i dont, its soooo good to be using iPhone again. The grass isnt greener!

Just wanted to warn anyone who might be thinking the way I did, taking a break!! A change is good but dont find yourself without an iPhone in the longterm!!!!!!!!!:apple::apple::apple::apple::apple:

I've tried all of them and in terms of overall 'experience' from box to support. iPhone is still the phone for me. BB OS is astonishingly boring/utilitarian plus no real apps, webOS hardware/software is yet to be fully tweaked plus no real apps, Android is too fragmented and it takes MONTHS to get the latest update and support is iffy and apps aren't guaranteed to be compatible.

Sure iPhone isn't an email king or multitasking genius and is a closed platform but what it does...it does well

I've switched a few times but always go back to the iPhone 3G. I had a BB Storm, was rubbish, swapped it for a BB Bold 9000, was a good phone, but had alot of problems with trackball, so went back to iPhone, then went to HTC Hero, very nice phone, but in the end I don't think the whole open source thing is everything it's cracked up to be as alot of the apps on the market are rubbish. At least with Apple's App Store you know the app will run and not ruin your phone.

Currently using a BB Bold 9700 which is a really great phone. Have been using it for just over a month and already looking at going back to my iPhone though, even with it's cracked screen edges and shockingly quiet ring volume. Will try and stick with the BB for as long as possible, but when the next gen iPhone comes out I'll picking one up on launch to go back.

iPhone is just so simple, and does everything I need a phone to do well. Might not be for everyone, but it fits me perfect.

I just don't understand how people can actually think there is something better then the iPhone out there. There can be only one (number 1 phone)

I truly believe this is a necessary step in that realization. I didn't know how attached to the iPhone I was until I traded it for a Bold 9000.

It took me three days to walk into an AT&T store and buy my current 3GS at the early upgrade price.

So you think people have to learn the hard way to FULLY appreciate the iphone?
