Subject: I'm thrilled and completely satisfied with my new 2019 Mac Pro 7,1

My subject line says it all for me.

This MP7,1 has met all my expectations and beyond.

I've owned all the Mac Pro models with my first selection dating back to the PowerMac G3 and the first Bondi Blue iMac in 1998 that was very influential in getting Apple back into business after lagging behind for several years.

The G3s, G4s, G5s and the MP6,1s have all served me well and the long 6 year wait for the MP7,1 has been worth it IMO.

I give credit to Apple for apparently listening to their Mac Pro customers about the MP6,1 being frozen in time and delivering this new 2019 Mac Pro that in many ways harkens back to the G4 and G5 design in terms of being easy to setup and upgrade with many different 'goodies'. The upgrade aspect allows each one of us to configure the MP7,1 the way we want for our computing workflows. The choices for upgrades and the ability to upgrade as we go along is obviously paramount for many of us.

I've had my shiny new 2019 MP7,1 16-core for almost 2 days now and continue to marvel at its construction and beautiful design. I had no choice but to order the wheels for my model as it was not only a practical decision, but also one of a great design and compliments the overall look of the machine. Of course the legs are great also. Each of the four wheel assemblies have two wheels that spin/rotate independently and this allows for the MP to move along effortlessly in whatever direction you want. The wheels are spindle less so crud, hair, dust etc cannot impeded the wheels smooth rotations. Have you ever grabbed a grocery store shopping cart only to find one or more of its wheels are so messed up with clogging crud/dirt/hair making it nigh impossible to ignore while pushing the cart around... grrrrr.

I've easily installed the Promise Pegasus 2Ji, a Sonnet PCIe x16 card along with 4x Samsung 970 EVO Plus blades, and 12x 32GB R-DIMMs with absolutely no issues at all. Upgrading the macOS from Catalina 10.15.2 to 10.15.3 sailed along seamlessly with no issues.

I've configured NVRAM (sudo nvram StartupMute=%00) to bring back the Startup chime which is so handy (and nostalgic) for when to press the Option key for selecting which boot device I wish to install, especially using the BT KB.

I've connected my MP7,1 to my 65" LG OLED TV via a good quality HDMI cable for the time being while I consider other display options. This worked without issues and the macOS sound output transmits very nicely to the TV's LG sounder and woofer. It was simply plug&play. 👍

My MP7,1 is super performing for me and has not in any way disappointed me. It's simply what I expect from Apple. It's a joy to use each day.

What say all ye' out there ? How do you like your new shiny Mac Pro 7,1 ?

Completely agree, well said.

I think you're going to have to get a Pro Display though! Same styling, same attention to the just works philosophy. A match made in Ive's white room heaven.

One thing I'm compelled to correct as an Australian:

... dating back to the PowerMac G3 and the first Bondie Blue iMac in 1998 ...

It's - Bondi - no e. The iMac was named after the colour of the sea at Bondi Beach. They actually have an Apple Store Bondi now too.

And in another snippet of synchronicity, now that the flagship Apple Store Sydney has temporarily closed for renovations, the sole Mac Pro demo unit in Sydney has been set up at Apple Store Bondi.

I'm very happy with my 24-core, but wish Apple would hurry up and make Catalina more stable and implement the changes to AMD drivers and Metal so that we can utilise the graphics cards to their fullest extent. Octane render (and I assume Redshift) are waiting for the changes in macOS 10.15.5 before they can be released.

I forgot to add that the vast number of posting here about the MP7,1 and the possible accessories etc were a great help to me for having such an easy time setting up my new MP7,1. By spending time reading peoples' experiences, and to know what works and what does not work or if working with some minor issues, it allowed me to make accessory purchases knowing in large part I would not have issues. The proof of this, is in my OP statements.

So, I really do thank people here who took the time to express their experiences be they +ive or -ive, that were very helpful making my MP7,1 setup be plug&play.

Today is a big day for me, as my new MP7,1 serves a dual purpose; for my personal use running Fluid Dynamics simulations and for my son's Film Editing business and who will be testing out this new MP7,1 doing his typical workflows. I'v already done my testing and I'm satisfied. Now it's my son's turn and I'm anxious he too will be satisfied. I have already loaded the MP7,1 with all of the software my son uses, so it's ready to roll, as they say.

For time being while researching my options for new display(s) I have the MP7,1 driving my 65" LG OLED TV via HDMI and an aging Apple 27" Thunderbolt 1 display using the USB-C-to-TB2 adapter. Both displays are working well.

I also have my late 2016 15" rMBP13,3 running with it connected to my MP7,1 via 10G Cat7 cable using a Promise SANLink 3 connected to the MBP13,3. This allows some 500 MB/s file transfers between the MBP and the MP7,1.

Again, thanks to everyone here that have posted on the virtues and other related things involving this new 2019 MP7,1.

.... and lastly, I LOVE THE WHEELS. One for each wheel.... 👍 👍 👍 👍 :):):):)

I think you're the first person who's written about the wheels on the 7,1. I'm not susprised at the build and design quality, certainly considering the price Apple's charging for them, they should be as thoughtfully designed and engineered as they are. Do the wheels have a locking mechanism, by chance?

My fleet of 5,1 towers and Windows workstations are all resting on wheeled trollies made of black melamine-coated plywood, manufactured by a long defunct company. We have to move workstations around fairly regularly, so it's incredibly convenient to just unlock the wheel lock and push them away. When I can place my 7,1 orders, I do plan on splurging for the wheels — our trollies will take their well-earned retirement.

The wheels do not have a locking mechanism as best I can see at this time. My office floor has a commercial quality carpet with a 1/4" tightly knitted nap. The MP7,1's wheels sink slightly into the carpet nap. If I want to ensure the MP7,1 does not move in a particular direction I rotate two of the wheels to be at right angles to the direction I don't want the MP7,1 move, and that does the trick nicely.

You will find the wheels operate perfectly, look awesome, and really do help when wanting to move the MP7,1 around. I've had to move it around quite often over past two days and find the wheels have really avoided me from hurting my back and also they allow me to position the MP7,1 exactly where I want without the typical pushing and shuffling that would otherwise be required.

Lots of silicone chocks around if you look.

Of course, an actual lock on the wheel would be better - but that's inconsistent with making the wheel a work of art.

I have an Asus PA329Q attached to my 7,1 and it works great and provides a wide coloraturas gamut.

Haha seriously? Since I got this machine I’m also thinking of a new office :D it’s really inspiring actually.

Absolutely :). First got a new monitor, lamp, chair and table. Then I got some new 970 EVOs and a Sonnet 4x. The Belkin cable set has already arrived so did the Pegasus J2. I just have to wait until March 6th to get my MacPro. Unfortunatley I can't follow the online order status as I get a server error. I had to order it by phone to get the business rebate of 6% (did wanted to go to the local Apple Store).

Uahhh, can't wait to get it. I've just got to see what I am gonna do with my 5,1. Got a second with broken motherboard (but with PSU and CPU bord working), another CPU board with CPU and RAM on it and some GPUs and RAMs. Hope to get rid off it alltogether :)

I am getting impatient with the Pro Vega II GPU not being available as a separate purchase from Apple.

The GPUs seem to be exclusively manufactured in China so this situation is probably going to get worse before it gets better.
