Okay MacRumors ladies and gentlemen I need your help finding my personal style again!
It has been lost for a while but with your guys help I hope to find it!:D

I manage a small chain of coffee shops in NewMexico and I have found myself wearing fleece/track pants and t shirts more and more which is just unacceptable!:eek:

I moved to this tiny town in 2004 and took pride in my appearance but after a while the locals started to wear on me. And I thought to myself what is the point of dressing nicely if no one else does? And so the downward spiral began. But dont worry not all has been lost I have decided that I need to start dressing nicely again mostly due to the fact that I am starting to not take pride in my appearance and I am moving to Chicago(Hinsdale) in a few short months.:eek:

So basically what I am asking is will you guys help me select a new summer/fall/winter wardrobe?:)

I am a big guy I'm 6'2 and weigh about 320.:cool:

Oh and just for direction my look when I arrived here was the "casual friday" which consists of dockers and a button up shirt or sweater which would always be some sort of earth tone such as dark green or burnt orange.
When it was cold out I would wear an ankle length Ralph Lauren wool overcoat with a funky fun scarf and a beanie in a neutral color.
 
I usually go with casual trendyish jeans (you know slightly worn looking things) a nicely cut shirt and shiny metal ass cufflinks to give it a bit of polish.

Smart casual. That way you cant be laughed at for being overdressed or under dressed.

If you're really looking to change your style from your previous style, just watch lots of movies and pick out stuff that you like.

However, proper button up shirts and Dockers can still be fashionable (although I'm not so sure about Dockers). The style of the shirt is what's going to make you look good or bad. You can go safe and just wear what you wore before. I'm sure it'd pass. Trendier shirts seem to have lots of stripes and different colourful patterns on them now. The shirts themselves are also very colourful. This may be a fad and disappear in the next few years, so again, get the basics if you want to look good in your clothes, even in 2-3 years when trends have changed another 3-4 times over.

Nothing will impress the older gentlemen more than when they see you wearing a pair of Asslinks™ in the jacuzzi at the country club.

Depends what your fashion sense is/was. For casual, I tend to find a lot of what I'm looking for at Calvin Klein. I'm a big fan of Armani Suites, although I no longer own any. I find Ralph Lauren tacky because they insist on putting their silly logo visibly on everything aside from their scarves. Shame because they have nice clothes otherwise.

And whatever you do, don't shop at Land's End!

I know how you feel, anyway. I owned one pair of jeans that I used for cleaning the house before I moved to the midwest. I still see no reason to wear anything much better than jeans and a t-shirt. I feel so overdressed in just a regular pair of trousers and a button-up shirt.

(I should add that you might want to wait until you get to Chicago)
 
jeans or dockers and a polo shirt works for me. i think the right sunglasses can make a big impact on your appearance. get a nice pair of Maui Jim's or (if you're not made of money) Ray-Bans.

Armani, Klein this guy is 6; 4'" and 320lbs!. Im afraid Lands End may be the only option. If you are of that stature in the UK your stuck with Marks and Spencer and specialist shops that still take wartime utility coupons. The thing here is to avoid anything less than smart casual otherwise at 320 its looks like you are letting go. Thing is how has he got away with wearing romper pants and t-shirts whilst managing a chain of coffee shops

Yep a good pair of sunglasses certainly help when confronted with polo shirts and dockers. Dont forget the white sport socks with sandals too :)

KingSize has okay stuff for guys who are both big and tall.

Hey amd4me. Sounds like you've got a fun time ahead of you picking out some nice new clothes. Here is my $.02, for what it's worth:

• You can get away with comfortable chino-style cotton trouser in so many settings, and if they've got a nice flat front (no pleats) and a bit of a tailored fit (not too baggy) you can really dress them up if you need to. Find a fit and make that you like, and buy a pair in black, tan, grey, etc.

• Dress up your look with a nice belt (a must) and good quality leather shoes. Nothing kills a look like sneakers.

• Go for natural fibers whenever possible; avoid that polyester crapola. Cotton/linen/wool/silk all breath, are comfortable, and look great on. Synthetics are often brutal on guys who tend to perspire (and I'm guessing this is an issue in the hot Southwest).

• Invest in a good quality long wool coat for Chicago. Pair it with a nice set of leather gloves and a soft merino scarf and you'll exude class. :cool:

• Shop the outlets or at end-of-season for great prices on well-made clothes.

• Don't forget to iron all those lovely natural-fibered items, or take them to the dry cleaners.

For whoever said lose weight I am on a diet and still losing(lost 40 lbs so far).
What kind of leather shoes should I get?
I I wear an apron so no one really sees what I have on.

Cool, excellent. While I was more overweight I tried a combination of personal shoppers and stylists, but in the end realised that personal style pretty much begins before you put your underpants on. Good luck in your diet / fitness programme.
