I'm currently looking for a font that looks like Verlag $200 is little steep for me to buy an fontpack for this font.

I love the style of Verlag but I was wondering if someone know of a font that looks similar (or the same) as Verlag besides the obvious choice of Century Gothic, Avant Garde ITC, Futura or Apple Gothic.

Happy font hunting:apple:

Don't worry I wouldn't pay $200 for that either.

Check 1001freefonts.com for a font that may work. They are Mac compatible and are all free. (Just don't use the search function on the site, it takes you to a site that makes you pay for fonts, you have to go through the fonts alphabetically).

i have never understood why people pay so much money for fonts, when there are so many free awesome fonts out there?

typefaces are design; in fact, a lot of people would argue some of the most difficult and technically and formally demanding graphic design out there. and its worth the money to get something as perfect and well designed as a typeface like Verlag.

Have you ever tried to typeset a multi-language document using these "free awsome" fonts?

On many of the free fonts out there, the character set is woefully lacking in many common accented characters.

I would gladly pay for a font that ensures a full character set so that If I need to use it for another language, I won't have to "hack" a special character. I even came across one font that was missing all of the symbols like !, @, #, $, etc.

How about Neutra (there's a few...bold, etc) or Hypatia? ITC Legacy Sans/Serif?

Thanks guys for the links and help, at the moment I have some great alternatives for Verlag.

Normally I would get the client to buy the font but this is one of those projects where nothing is 100% finalised, we are still gathering ideas and the client wants to see a mock up before "locking in" styles/font/colour/etc....

Cheers :apple:

One thing that is evident with the free fonts is the fact that their spacing is nowhere near nice to look at. That being said, free fonts are a nice resource to have as long as you take the time to make tiny adjustments to make them look better.
