But when I try to do a "normal" backup to my hard drive at the end it says that it cant because the iPad was detached before completing. I never touched the ipad or its cable during the process. I thought that my cord attaching the ipad to mac may have been too long and so changed it for a shorter one. However, it didnt make any difference.

Sorry that its in Japanese but I guess the backup windows are all kind of the same over languages

Thanking you

Thank you but I keep getting the same msg there too:

“the connection with iPad was reset so syncing couldn’t take place"

thats a literal translation from the Japanese. I looked at Apple's solution which didnt make much sense to this armature. I then took a look at a youtube solution. However, once again didnt make much sense as I couldt find the "mobilesync" folder which they were talking about.

I went into itune preferences as you mention above and was wondering whether you change the following to having it reside on an external drive, would it back up there instead. At the moment, the latest ipad backup shows 8/1/2017 and I am going to get my new ipad pro 10 today and dont want to be sure I have a current backup to restore. I didnt have any problems yesterday backup my iphone but my ipad wont for some reason.

Thanking you in anticipation.

BTW, an icloud backup doesnt work either
