I like the timer but it’s annoying when using Waze the location thing is there so shortens the timer

I like the idea and it will be a really good feature once more 3rd party apps integrate it.

What'd I'd love is for flashscores/fotmob to integrate and you can permanently have live football scores on a cycle.

That would be awesome

I’m not sure it will. Apple’s put a lot of effort into this.

Touch Bar failed because it replaced a much more useful function row of keys. So it was bound to get a lot of hate. The Island doesn’t have this issue. It has the potential to be truly useful, and doesn’t take anything away.

I would say it also failed because it was only on the Pro line so the percentage of Mac users who actually had a Touch Bar remained limited hence little interest from developers.

Hopefully we see it on the regular iPhone line next year.

Rumours say all 4 iPhones will have it next year.

It’ll be interesting to see how devs use Live Activities API, and properly use this new area. I think we’re judging something that’s not yet being used.

Some info on it: https://developer.apple.com/design/...components/system-experiences/live-activities

Nope. There's a plastic piece inside the phone, where the SIM tray was
I’m talking about the visible exterior edge, which is what I assumed the person I replied to was talking about. It’s just solid now where the SIM tray was.

I haven’t used it much - I do like that my timer info pops up in it - but I think it looks a lot better than the notch overall, although I don’t really watch videos on my phone, so I can’t speak to it being annoying in a video. I just like that the bezel around the phone is even - looks more finished to me than a big chunk missing out the top.

I think I’ll reserve judgement until the next iOS (or two) updates roll out but I agree it currently has limited use past just being a visual gimmick in my experience.

It's a frickin gimmick; I returned my 14 Pro Max; not worth the money. The camera upgrade was barely noticeable over the 13 Pro Max.
You’ll be back…this is the design language moving forward for the next few years. You can run back to the old notch for comfort and security but eventually if you upgrade to any of the newer iPhones in the future it’ll be there waiting for you. I say accept it and just adapt to it now. Returning it to rebel won’t change anything

Is anybody else on the same boat?
I've upgraded from the 13 Pro Max, one of the reasons (apart from camera, display and a fresh new battery) was the Dynamic Island

I got so hyped when they presented it, and I thought it was a clever UI/UX design.

But now that it's almost 2 weeks that I've had the 14 PM I'm using it less than what I expected. I don't listen to music that much on the phone, mostly through carplay. People that use public transportation will use it more I believe.

Also there were already two other places where you could control music.

Honestly I would prefer to have the notch back as it doesn't interfere with wide YouTube videos

Also, I believe this pill is more noticeable than the notch for two reasons:
The notch merged with the rest of the phone. The pill having that useless space above makes it more noticeable

The pill sits lower than the notch

A big reason is Apple provided devs no way to access this yet. I *think* the docs are out now but they actually removed the ActivityKit (I think it's ActivityKit) docs for awhile so no one knew how to program for this thing, and you can't use undocumented APIs or your app gets rejected.

I might be in the minority here, but I love 3D Touch and Force Touch. I still use it on every Apple product that has it.
Sure.. but I don't think there is a single Apple product that uses 3D Touch anymore? The hardware may be there (iPhone Xs still gets iOS 16) but they're all being gimped by later OS updates and replaced by Haptic Touch.

Right, I know there's some technical differences between all of those. I was simply saying I enjoy that feature and use it daily.

Thank you for this honest review I will be canceling my 14promax order . Also I’m not a fan of the sim tray being replace by a plastic piece.
Yep. My three reasons that I returned 14P to continue using my 13P - DI was actually more distracting than notch, and almost never useful. AOD absolutely blows. And the SIM tray thing just felt very odd and I like I was getting cheated out of some valuable internal space. I’m sure in the future when they kill SIM trays globally they will do something valuable. But to me, 14 generation is looking like a big SKIP. At this point I think I will wait til 16 for that Apple Silicon wireless modem.
