Like a lot of people, I was initially disappointed about a lot of things on the iPad. Frankly, the price of the unit and the monthly charge for internet access were about the only things that surprised me as good about it - it was simply an iPod Touch with a big screen. We've heard many people complain about all the flaws with it ad nauseam: the limitations of using the iPhone OS instead of OS X, no flash support, etc. I was initially one of them and pretty much wrote it off in it's current form, thinking maybe if they add a bunch more stuff in version two than I'd reconsider. I wanted a tablet computer "done right", not a giant Touch.

But after thinking about it for a while, I'm starting to change my mind. In a big way. I have a Windows laptop I use for work and pretty much can't get away from that. I have a Mac Pro at home for photos and video editing and that too won't go away. Being on Verizon, I can't get an iPhone so I have a BlackBerry Storm. I think the Storm is incredibly limiting and just clunky to use, so I picked up an iPod Touch as well for multimedia type goofing around. I love my Touch, but the screen is simply too small for me for any serious videos or games.

Enter the iPad. After coming to grips with it's "limitations", I'm beginning to think that for my use, perhaps it isn't so limiting after all. I use my Touch about 75% of the time in my home, so the size of the iPad is not a limitation here - it's a big plus. I have given up using my Storm for anything other than email and as a phone - the browser is so bad I hate to use it and the applications are okay, but nothing spectacular. If I buy any applications or games, it's for my Touch. When I go somewhere knowing I have time to kill, I end up bringing both the Touch and my Storm. It's not out of the question to bring the iPad instead of the Touch. Yes it's bigger, won't fit in a pocket, etc., but I already have phone in there so I must carry it externally anyway. It's not a stretch to drop the iPad in a backpack and carry it with me instead. I can definitely see a lot more use for a device with a bigger screen and internet access anywhere I am at than I currently get out of my Touch and my Storm.

I was going to get rid of my Storm this summer and pick up whatever the latest and greatest Android phone on Verizon was at that time, but now I am strongly considering just picking up a cheap phone and an iPad instead. I'm usually near a computer at home and work and for the times I'll be gone a long time, I could bring the iPad and have email with me. I think the screen size will lead to an explosion of apps for it and for most of my use, I could get by with it. For "heavy" use, I could just bring my laptop.

I am now actually excited about getting an iPad.

I'm thrilled for you. I'm sure as thrilled to know that, as you are thrilled to know I DON'T want one. No one really cares what I think, or you think. All of this typing out of opinions is just so much BS, you know?? LOL! Seriously.

My point was simply that I initially was very disappointed in what was announced and after thinking about how it could be used, I can now start to see some of the genius in it. Aside from a very select few who have actually used one, what else is there on this entire forum other than opinions? If you are tired of people's opinions, why are you responding?

I'm not tired of them! I'm just pointing out reality! Don't be offended, please!

I'm not offended. If you see no need for one, that's cool. My reality is that I changed my mind - others may as well.

Very interesting Rich. Dave posts his opinion that he doesn't like seeing other peoples opinion. Personally I like seeing what other people have to say and I appreciate you posting. I may or may not agree with you, but appreciate a well worded and though out posting. Thanks.

I am in the same boat. I Use the iPod touch quite a bit to read the bloomberg news via the app, the NYT via the app, quick weather check via weatherbug, safari (but its small as ****) Etrades app, Nasdaqs Qfolio,etc..

A big iPod touch will get lots of use :)

I did NOT post that I don't want to see other's opinions! I said "no one cares" and that IS a fact. No one cares if Joe Blow buys an "xyz" and Tom Smith doesn't. REALLY, does anyone here REALLY care who does and doesn't buy some product?? That doesn't equate to me not wanting anyone to express an opinion. I'm just saying in the grand scheme of things, the opinions expressed here mean nothing. What counts for Apple is sales. No sales, no money, no growth. Big sales, better bottom line (usually--SOny could argue that one), and happy campers who have stock in APple. But HERE, it's all just a bunch of chest-thumping.

I too am warming to the idea. I wasn't as negative as most by any stretch of the imagination - I mostly think people are being too critical of the device.

The whole "it's a big iPod argument" is why I like it - I use my iPhone around the house to browse when I can't be bothered to use (or don't have access to) my Mac but the screen is too small.

Nearly all of my non-techy friends are impressed with the device and even my techy friends who aren't especially psyched about the device can see how it would be good (one said "Command and Conquer would rock on this" - for example). In my opinion this thing has appeal and like the iPod Touch and iPhone this appeal will just keep growing.

I understand why people here don't like it, to some extent but I think maybe they should forget what they expected and imagined it would be and instead see what could be done with what has been announced.

cosign. I have the 1st gen iphone that still looks and works like new, because I barely use it. I don't even like making calls on it. Just give me a Star Tac Motorola and a ipad. lol
When I get my pad, my iphone will be a cool entertainment remote/controller.
I'm out of contract with at&t and don't plan to re-up.

If you care about Apple's sales, support them by buying one.:)
