Hi,

My iMac slipped out of my hands and kissed the ground while I was moving it from my car into my new house. The hardware is still intact but there are a lot of scratches and a big crack in the corner which I don't find aesthetically attractive.

I made some research and found a couple of auctions on front bezels for the iMac G5 17", with or without iSight. I myself have an Intel iMac (Imac 5,1) so my concern is if the front bezel for "iMac G5 17" with iSight" will fit my Intel iMac?

The G5 iMac was thicker than the Intel iMac, despite looking similar in appearance. This information is from personal ownership, as well as knowing offhand.

So while the G5 one may look like it will fit, remember that the G5 iMac front may overlap over the back panel of the Intel iMac, due to the difference in depth.

Thanks a lot for the info! I guess the easiest way is to visit my local Apple Store (or Premium Reseller since we don't got the real thing in here) find out.

I would imagine the original poster already solved his problem, but I'd just like to add something just in case someone else might find it useful. I just did exactly what the original poster asked about.

I had an 17" Core Duo Intel iMac that was missing the front bezel and the iSight camera and the microphone that are attached to the bezel. I found a front bezel for the G5 iMac that included the iSight camera and the mic on ebay at a pretty low price (less than some selling just the camera alone), so I thought I'd take a chance. The front bezel physically fits fine. The iSight and the mic uses the same plugs on the G5 and the Intel models so they plug in without a problem and works . The slot for the optical drive lines up correctly.

However, I can see two minor problems right now (very minor, and not really a problem for me). The screw holes on the bottom of the bezel does not line up with the ones on the main body. I might try drilling through the bezel screw hole and put a self tapping screw. The memory slots do not line up with the hole for it in the front bezel so you would have to take off the bezel to install or remove the memory cards.

Please tell me this isn't the start of the scratched bezel panic that has taken over the Iphone. :)

I actually ordered the original part and had it replaced for ~80 USD.
