So i went on my happy little way to pick up a mini DVI to DVI converter (its a Dynex, they were all out of apple brand at Best Buy) to hook up my imac to my external Dell Display, and Im getting weird patterns and scan lines on the dell display. What could this be from? I tried calibrating, but nothing seemed to help. Could it be from the dynex converter? I threw the box out so i cant return it, but i dont feel like spending another 20 bucks and finding that the apple one displays the same way. Any help would be awesome.

Thanks:confused:

Test the Dell on another computer. If it works, it is quite possible the Dynex.

Go to Best Buy and exchange the Dynex for another one. It's just a cable, they most likely won't have much of an issue if it is a straight exchange. Then hope they let you leave with the new cable and the packaging. On the other hand, if it was in one of those plastic pegboard packages that you have to literally destroy to open, you can probably just return it anyway. Tell them you could not be bothered to keep the shreds of the package. Then see if they have the Apple part, and if not - head over to the nearest Apple store. The Apple part is not much more expensive than the Dynex perhaps $5 or less.
