Is it a standard SATA port in there that will happily accept any regular SATA device, or will I need an adapter of some sort? I know about the mounting frame, just asking about the SATA connector/interface itself.

Alternately, does this model allow booting from the SATA port the SuperDrive is connected to, in case I choose that route?

Small update in case anyone else runs into this: as suggested by another user in a different forum, it's indeed a regular SATA interface and it will accept any off-the-shelf SATA drive just fine.

You will need to reattach the temperature sensor with a bit of double-sided tape (or glue in worst case) and most likely you will have to run Macs Fan Control to reconfigure fan readings to keep fan RPM and noise down. The readings from a cooler SSD compared to the warmer original HDD seem to confuse OS X causing fan RPM to hit the roof.

Are you sure you reconnected all cables correctly?
All fans in my 24" iMac from 2009 behave normally after SSD install.
