Hello,

I want to buy a 20'' Imac. I live in Brazil and the price is very attractive due to the exchange rate (Real/Dolar).

The difference between the 2 models of 20'' is about US$300. Is it worth?

I am a domestic user, not a heavy user, and that's the reason why I think I can take advantage of the price of the current model, which is very attractive, instead of waiting for the new model that is going to be much more expensive here in Brasil (prices will be revised due to the exchange rate). Does it make sense? Or the upgrades in the new model will be radical?

Thank you so much,

Gustavo

For average use, save your $300 and buy the 2.4Ghz model. It is an excellent machine. You may want to upgrade the ram yourself at some time, but 4GB ram is only $50. I don't know how hard it is to get into a new iMac, but I'm sure ifixit.com can help you if you need to go there.

To update 1GB RAM to 4GB RAM I have to buy 2 slots of 2GB each one? Where I can buy it (online) for $50? And about the others differences of 2.4GHz and 2.66GHz (video memory, per example), isn't it make difference for domestic user?

id say if you have the extra money

then get the one that is more

either way they are both great machines.. both are fast

I've just found the places to buy RAM.

Imac 20'' 2.4GHz with 4GB RAm works fine? Is it enough for a domestic user? Or a 2.66GHz model has another features that worth $300?

Thank you.

I bought a 20" 2.0 Ghz Aluminum iMac about a year ago and have found it to be very adequate for my use. I do mostly home finance, iTunes, photo management, internet. I upgraded to 4Gb of RAM which was probably overkill for my use. With your proposed use I think you would find the iMac very satisfactory.

I suggest using the price difference savings and budget for an external hard drive to back up your data and software.

And about a video card...ATI Radeon HD 2400 XT with 128MB memory against ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO with 256MB.

Is it make a big difference? Worth $300?

For most things, the difference will be so little, it won't matter. The two chips are so similar that going with the 2600 now won't really make the system last any longer, and so I'd go with the 2.4 that has the radeon 2400, and spend the extra money taking the system to 4gb of memory, and I would also look at getting an external hard disk for backups.

And about the LCD display (screen washed out). Is it really happen? In both 20'' models?

Any other problem is common with the display?

Thank you.

I am a domestic user, games just sometimes!

I am very confused about 20'' 2.4GHz and 2.6GHz. Is it worth buy 2.4GHz and put 4MB?

Please, help me, because I have just today to enjoy a promotion!!!

Thank you.

4GB will definitely help some if you are using it for gaming and want more buffer room. It will help it load info off the HDD into faster memory for some improvement.

Mine has 1GB now. I'll up it to 4GB in a few weeks. I have a 128mb 2400 XT. I'll take any help I can with it :D
