iMac 2006 Losing Pixie Dust?

So that was just a dumb title. But my friend got a new 21.5" iMac because their other one from 2006 (has Tiger) Has stripes on the screen. They are vertical colored striped and the multiply as time goes on. SMC and PRAM reset don't fix it... and wasn't its a known problem of ATI Graphics failing in the early 2006 iMacs? They got it March 2006. Since they don't need it, I'm getting it. But is it possible the issue is something besides the graphics card?

It's a manufacturing fault in screens used in certain iMac 2006 models...

I have one of the affected models (check my sig) and I might call up Apple to see if they'll replace the screen.
