Today I turned on my iMac and the display won't turn on. Not even a blank screen. I tried resetting the pram and smu by unplugging the computer for a minute.

Which iMac do you have the 24" or the 20" iMac?
Do you know if the iMac has the 8800 graphics card?
I am asking because the 8800 has an extremely high failure rate. There are numerous threads in this forum about the 8800 failing after 2-3 years. There isn't much you can do if the graphics card is dead as a number of people had to repair the logic board and the graphics card about 3 times.
