iMac 2009 problems and Apple's approach to resolution...

Got to admit these problems with the ATi 4850's causing system crashes or lockups has put a dampener on my purchase.

I have a few questions, but don't want to be seen as hi-jacking this thread.
- Is the problem with the 4850's a Version 1 iMac 2009 problem?
- So, is there a Version 1.1 or Version 2 iMac 2009 in the works?
- Is it likely a heat issue or OS X issue?

How long does Apple take to fix these problems? I certainly don't want my new iMac to be unreliable - I switched from PC's for the search of quality and stable computing. Plus I can't stand the look of Windows, and I love OS X and it's user friendliness. I am also strongly attracted to Apple's design.

So, I'm hoping on some objective comments from experienced Guru's.

The ATI 2600 had a lot of problems, they were worked out.

Likely most will be cleared with 10.5.7 and at worst a GPU driver update later.

Sometimes it does take awhile.

Bootcamp updates and/or EFI updates.

Might not come with 10.5.7 -- could end up slightly after.

The issues with the ATI 2600 were eventually resolved, and the so-called hardware issues were worked around for most people.

Hmm. Interesting. I think I may have to re-think my purchase and budget.

Perhaps it may be better for me to go for a MacPro instead. I've always hedged about which one to purchase.

I reread the thread: Boot camp windows vista and ATI 4850 and only one person seems to report problem with it,
I'd like to try installing Windows, but I'd rather waiting for Windows 7 RC which should be available early next month.

Also, if it's the firmware that's causing the freeze, then it would affect every OS.

By the look of things People get scared easily when things do not go right. Don't give up so easily. It will be fixed. People get too excited. Granted it is frustrating to have lockups, but they will be fixed.

I just want my iMac to be as free of problems and defects as possible.

The all in one form factor is just to ideal for me. I really hope get on top of these problems with the new iMac really quickly. I'm feeling a bit of trepidation right now.

Just had a look at the Mac Pro's. But I really don't want a huge box sitting in my home office.

The all in one form factor is just to ideal for me. I really hope get on top of these problems with the new iMac really quickly. I'm feeling a bit of trepidation right now.

Just had a look at the Mac Pro's. But I really don't want a huge box sitting in my home office.

I would love a Mac Pro but can't afford one as if I configured it the way I want it the cost for me would be over $8000.00 But for now I am buying a iMac and I am with you and do truly hope that Apple gets on top of this problem fast as they will no doubt get a ton of complaints and will tie up the Support lines.

I am prepared if My iMac locks up, I won't like it, who would? But I know Apple will try hard to fix this just as soon as they can, but in reality it can never be soon enough for us Right?

I would feel.. Not angry, but really sad if my long awaited switch to Mac turns out to be stressful and unhappy. Never been at all satisfied with Windows or PC's and my good old loan iMac G4 has been flawless - even if it is 6 years old. Still. I don't plan to be able to buy until early July (it's a money thing). I hope by then OS X 10.5.7 is out and these iMac problems are remedied by
