Hi,

I have a problem with a 2011 IMac that I got recently and I was hoping for some help with the issue.

It had a damaged LCD Invertor connector (the 4 pin, not the power) but I managed to bend the pins back into place and get the machine to boot, everything worked perfectly. However, the fans were very loud after light use so I decided to reapply the thermal paste for both the CPU and GPU.

Whilst putting everything back together the damaged invertor cable somehow managed to completely lose one of its pins. Not a problem I thought, I can buy a new one on eBay for £15. Unfortunately it seems my problems are deeper than just that part.

Without the invertor board, but everything else attached I have the 1 diagnostic LED when the power is connected. The problem is it does not boot or display any more LED's, unless I unplug the LCD screen.

Then when powered on I get LED 2 and 3.

I am not the most experienced working on apple products but I do have a lot of professional experience with Windows hardware so be as technical as you wish. Also, if I missed something obvious, please fire away.

I have check the cables many times so I am sure its not the 2 cables that connect the LCD to the main board.
