Hello everyone!
About a month ago I updated my 2011 iMac by replacing the (broken) factory hard drive with a 500 GB SSD and adding 8GB of ram to the factory 4GB. After several days of use one of the two new banks of ram has stopped working, in fact, when I insert it, the machine cannot start, making three beeps at startup.
I solved the problem by permanently removing the non-functioning ram bank.
The main problem now is that when I try to use the computer, most of the time a black screen shows up on startup! Sometimes I solve by performing various resets such as VRAM and SMC, or by changing the arrangement of the ram banks. The strange thing is that when I finally manage to use the computer, once the session is over and then I turn off the machine, the next time I try to turn it on, the black screen problem returns!
Thank guys and happy holidays from Italy!!
PS: As I said, I’m actually using only one of the two new banks of ram (2+2+4), and yes, they are compatible with the machine.
