I have a late 2013 iMac making a noise for a while, not constant just on and off. I’ve ran SMART checks and the HD seems to be ok. The HD was replaced a couple of years ago and a thermal sensor fitted. Also ran an apple diagnostic test which came out ok. I’ve attached a file if anyone could offer an opinion what it might be.

Sure sounds like HD noise to me. The only other thing it could be on this machine is the fan. I’d backup my data sooner rather than later. SMART checks don’t predict the future. They’ll tell you the drive is fine... right up until it isn’t.
Yeah I have a feeling it is the fan because I had a similar noise before the HD was replaced, but not as pronounced. I use Drive DX to check for SMART failures, aside from the 2013 model I have a 2017 2 year old iMac which is showing a potential failure on the HD. Not going to be heartbroken if it is the HD tho, I could do with upgrading them to SSD sooner or later.

Install and run the Mac Fans app - that will tell you if the fan is speeding up/down as it monitor all your fans inside!

Thanks, but I don’t think that’s the issue, I can see the fan speeds through an app I’ve installed, rarely gets above 1200rpm.
