Hi,

I'm planning to buy the 2017 27inch. I will use it for Logic Pro X and less requiring tasks such as surfing mail etc. I will upgrade the to an SSD, the RAM I will upgrade myself after I get the computer. Now my questions is which CPU to pick. I plan to start with the middle 27 inch iMac, with i5 3.5GHz, now I'm thinking if I should upgrade the processor to the i7? I read that the i7 runs louder... Will there be a noticable difference in performance between those two processors running Logic Pro X?

thanks in advance :)

Big difference in performance. The hyperthreading also really helps when running loads of plugins. Get the i7.

What about the difference between the low, mid, and high tier for i7 on the 27"? How significant are the performance differences there?

There aren't any different CPU options in the 27" 2017 AFAIK. It's either the 3.8GHz i5 or the 4.2GHz i7.
