Hi all,

Recently when I turned on my iMac I immediately noticed a faint streak of light in the middle of my screen. No idea what would have caused this or if it's even repairable. It's really strange, you can't really see it if on a bright/white or dark/black screen. Here's a few photos to show what I mean. I also notice that it goes away once the iMac warms up a bit 🤷🏻‍♀️

Any idea of what this is, if it's at all repairable or worth going into Apple store for (no longer under warranty)? It's a 2017 iMac and has been perfect up to this point. (Sorry for crap photos, it was really difficult to capture it). Maybe I’ll just wait for the new iMac Pro to be announced and upgrade 🤪

TIA!

It's just the LCD panel showing some signs of degradation.
It's repairable by replacing the whole LCD panel + glass.
You can call Apple Service center for a price quotation without bringing the machine there.

Eventually you'd decide to live with it because the repair cost is not worthy.

The vertical line you see on the display could be a sign that the display is failing. If possible, attach an external display to your iMac to see if the external display is okay. The vertical line could also indicate a graphics problem which is why you should test with an external display.

This is what I was thinking too. I suppose it just surprised me that this happened only 4 years after purchase 😭 guessing I just got a bad one.

This may be "cost-prohibitive" to repair on a 4-year-old iMac.
(that means, "too much money").

Having said that...

You said that it goes away after the iMac has been on for a while?
No longer noticeable?

What happens if you just leave the iMac on all the time, and "put it sleep" at night or when you're not using it?

When you wake it back up, is the line "there", or is it still "gone"?

This would be one case where I'd recommend leaving the computer ON all the time... (which I generally NEVER recommend...)

But if that's what it takes to keep this one "running ok", then... that's what it takes!
