iMac 2017 Radeon 580 vs iMac 2019 Radeon 580X

All I see here and everywhere else are 2019 iMac 27" Vega GPU vs 580X reviews . What I can't find is a comparison between the 2017 Radeon Pro 580 und the 2019 Radeon Pro 580X. How much faster is the 580X compared to the 580? Any ideas?

It’s hard to compare them directly because GPU benchmarks rely on CPU performance as well. I bet you can find system comparisons though.

I did stabilization tests on a 2017 (575 Pro, probably close to a 580) vs 2019 (Vega 48) that used the same benchmark. In case you’re interested:

The recent Geekbench 5 OpenCL results in this thread (https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/geekbench-5-is-out-post-imac-results.2196135/) show the 580X scoring approximately 37,000 and the 580 scoring approximately 32,000. So according to these results at least the 580X is about 15% faster. But I don't know how much that reflects real world results.

I owned the 2017 i7 580 and upgraded to the 2019 i9 580X. People claim the 580X is just an overclocked 580, so expect a boost but a marginal one in the 2019 model. The big upgrade is the i9-9900K, but a 2017 model with an i7-7700K CPU, 580 graphics, a decent amount of RAM and an SSD is no slouch.

it's not a question of faster, but also of louder.
i tested a 580X imac and it got really loud under benchmarking and gaming, really, no proper imac experience.
they are definitely closing the hardware design limit for this model, another good sign they'll have to rethink also thermals in the next one.

So far I find the the 2019 i9 580X model to be slightly quieter than the 2017 i7 580 under load. That's not to say the 2017 was loud either, but the 2019 model seems to cool things down and get quiet a little quicker. Fans ramp up as expected during CPU and GPU intensive tasks like loading hundreds of RAW images in Adobe Bridge / Lightroom, 3-D or video rendering and exporting, etc.

Benchmarking isn't really a real world use case (i.e. it's not a task someone would do all day every day), and most people don't buy Macs for serious gaming.

After a month with experience of doing up to 9900kf i9 processor and ssd, good to talk a little about what I found, in videos using davinci resolves, it was spectacular, the makeup flows beautiful and smooth, I think i9 give a help on the card video because it runs very well, even with heavy videos in 4K 60fps, it goes well.

now in the programs that I use a lot (Photoshop and Illustrator) I didn’t find such a good thing, using Photoshop with very heavy files, I saw q some gagging, same thing in the illustrator he gagging more, when I put the activity monitor, the gpu works on the edge Without smoothing anything. When I had the i7 and 4 gbs gpu it ran beautiful and smooth in illustrator.

a question that remains in the head, is that because it is the 9900kf model that does not have integrated video, illustrator and Photoshop would depend on the video, even though my gpu is a 580x 8gb, much stronger than the previous 570 4gb.

I was in doubt with that.

But otherwise the machine was a rocket everything opens very fast with ssd and i9

Can you help me out! I have just upgraded to the 580x logic board, and it wont work with a i9-9900K - you mention using a KF version - without video. That did work with your logic board? Even the guys at the local apple place are stumped, but I kinda guessed as much. I assume it also work with the i7-kf. Any input appreciated. Thanks

From what I've gathered, the X variants are only marginally faster. To the point where a 2017's 580 will probably have you yearning for something much newer than a 580X by the time it has you yearning for anything faster at all.

Would anyone justify the price difference of 27" 2017 iMac compared to 2019 based on "slightly quieter"?

Essentially when it all "looks like" NOT an upgrade but rather "enxanced/boost setting".

Were making a useful comarison and summing up findings. If interested can reed here on iFixit.

Also those imacs have a Single FAN. 27" Range 2012-2020 - all same in that respect.
