Running 10.14.6 on a 5GHz WiFi connection. Occasionally and at various times (perhaps shortly after waking from sleep), internet performance becomes erratic. The connection slows to a crawl, and pinging websites will show frequent timeouts. Meanwhile, the WiFi icon still shows full strength and a 400+ Tx rate. Turning WiFi on and off on the iMac instantly resolves the issue until it occurs again.
This problem does not occur on any other devices. There are no external devices connected to the Mac. No odd utilities or 3rd party extensions running. The OS was set up as new when the iMac was purchased. WiFi diagnostics does not find anything. Apple Hardware Test passes OK.
I've resigned myself to thinking this is some kind of firmware level bug, but I can't find enough people online complaining of the same thing to think it's widespread. I was thinking perhaps it's unique to my running an 802.11n connection whereas most people are probably using 802.11ac.
Has anyone else experienced this and do you have any suggestions?
