Hi all,
I have a late 2019 iMac, 3.7GHz Intel 6 core i5, Radeon pro 580x 8gb, with 40GB ram (32 GB added later). With this I have a Dell U2719DC external monitor I connect to one of the USB C ports. I alternate this external monitor between the iMac and a windows laptop. This worked wonders until a month or so back, when all of a sudden the external monitor started flimmering and going black - occasionally for so long that the monitor itself says it's lost signal and shuts off. It doesn't happen everyday, but 3/4 days it happens, making it hard to use the additional screen. This doesn't happen with the laptop, which uses the same USB C cable, so the error is on the iMac's side. I updated to Ventura 13.2.1 in the hopes that would cut it, but it didn't.
I suspected it could be the upgraded RAM which I put in a year back, because I haven't noticed any improved performance following it, so was afraid it could be faulty, but all tests of the RAM chips indicate they function too. And remember this started happening several months after I upgraded the RAM.
The apartment building has been suffering some power blackouts sporadically the last year, so I should say that the iMac probably on 7 or 8 occasions have lost power suddenly. But it sounds weird that would result in a weak link to the external monitor, given the Retina screen itself is as bright and beautiful as ever?
Anyone that has any clue about what causes this and what I eventually can do to fix it? If nothing helps, I'll take it back to Apple for service, but I would want to try whatever here first.
Thanks
